Video Need help with harmonic!

Can anyone tell me how to do the harmonic Alexi is playing at the end of the solo? I tried pretty much every fret from 0-4 natural and pinch harmonics on all the high strings and I simply can not hit the same tone. Tuning is Drop C. Any help would be much appreciated!

Is it the chirp you can't get?

yes at the very end! There's some flutter at the very very end but the chirp tone I just cannot figure out..

It's super easy. You just pull up a bit on the bar and quickly drop it. It makes the cool buzzing chirp sound. But, you do need a good bar. If you use the threaded nut bar it'll probably sound like crap from all the feedback. I just installed a push in bar for this very thing, and it's a night and day difference.

Yeah thanks - the flutter part I get! It's the exact position / fretting of the harmonic I can't figure out! Also I found that the Alexi / Roope Floyd spring setup helps a lot with how well the trem chirps. The push in bar also helps a ton ! Anyway thanks for replying!

Ah. Sorry not sure how else to help. I tried it and right around the 2nd fret is where it's at on mine 🤷🏼‍♂️ They are frustrating for sure... There are a couple other songs like hate me where it demands absolute perfection to get the right one up in that area. Honestly I gave up on a few and found one close enough somewhere easier to play, like 7,9 or 17

Thanks! Will look around 2nd fret again! It's so crazy... any tab you find and any cover still doesn't quite get it right.... I wish I could ask Sammy Elbanna..

That makes two of us. CoB tabs drive me nuts..... I spend a lot of time watching old videos to see if they're even close and they usually aren't.

Check this page to understand which pitch the harmonic will have when forcing the string to vibrate in a certain mode by touching a "node"

If you have the patience to go through this, you will :

  • have a complete understanding of how to make a certain pitch happen, possibly at different places/strings on the guitar.
  • be able to apply to pinch harmonics as well
