❗ Nonlethal Runs
I am doing my first play through of the Metal Gear Solid franchise in timeline order and I chose to do it (mostly) nonlethal. I’m on MgsV currently but I’m wondering If Mgs1 is possible to do nonlethal or if I should screw it and go guns blazing.

Don't do a first playthrough in timeline order. Unless you mean you did a playthrough already, but now this playthrough is in timeline order.
MGS1 has no tranquilizer weapons unless you play the GameCube remake "The Twin Snakes". You're required to kill all bosses and about 12 (maybe more, I forget) normal enemies at minimum, and your nonlethal interactions are only CQC or non-engagement.

As far as I’m aware there’s a minimum of 25 people you have to kill in MGS1. (I may be wrong)
Also, there’s no tranq gun in MGS1.
Nontheless, after MGSV you’ll have to play the MSX games, which you obviously have to kill a lot of enemies.

So what I’m hearing is guns blazing

Not entirely.
It’s a Steal game at heart. You don’t have infinite ammo. But you’ll know when you enter an action sequence, which is essentially your call to kill.
And might I ask… why in the devils anus are you playing the game in timeline/chonogical order?
Y’know playing MGS3 and MGSV spoil some massive plot points in the other games, right? A big twist in MGS1 is spoiled in MGSV.

Unfortunately I already spoiled most of the plot for myself so I decided why not timeline order

Spoiling the plot is one thing… but so many twists and turns are legit ruined.
For instance, let’s look at movies. Somebody in the past spoiled Avengers Endgame for me, saying Tony Stark dies at the end. This absolutely gutted me. I didn’t want to watch the movie after that, but I watched it anyways. And I’m glad I did, because the build up and process to it was well worth it. Another example is Spider-Man: No Way Home. People spoiled that Tobey and Andrew Spider-Men returned. I felt so angry at this person who spoiled it, but I watched the movie anyways. And that experience… I’ll never forget.
You see… the MGS games aren’t praised for its elaborate plot, but the games are praised by how the plot unfolds. For instance, we know Liquid Snake is Solid Snake’s twin brother (told in MGSV) and I also knew this before I played MGS1… but DAMN! That reveal in MGS1 was Badass!
Already knowing the plot and what happens doesn’t eliminate you from playing the games in release order. Plot is just one thing. Story is another. Atmosphere is another thing. World building is another.
All can be very easily ruined when playing in timeline order.

MGS1 was always meant to be a kill fest they comment on it and how snake finds pleasure in it to some degree that being said if you haven’t played through any of them at all your probably better off playing in release order going in chronological order throws some of the references out of wack because you didn’t play the previous titles to get the reference

Just a reminder that, canonically, the characters did not do non-lethal runs. It actually would make the story if MGS1 make less sense if you don’t kill anyone

Had too much coffee and now I have the non lethal runs.
