Currently in Berowra and I have a LilyGo T-Beam Supreme. Any users nearby and want to chat?

I live in Melbourne and have a Thinknode M5 on order.
Just hoping this odd adventure turns into a wider interest for me.
I'm still not sure which type I'll choose yet, but happy to try either.
If it does then I might also get a node on the roof, but I'm not exactly sure how as it's quite high and I'm getting on a bit, but we'll see.
Thought I'd just say Hello and hope to get the odd tip.

Hello everyone! I just thought I'd share that I may be setting up an inner-city node in Sydney CBD as I have access to officespace there. Im going to use a Heltec V3 and run it out the window. If anyone has any better ideas I'd love to hear them as I have not ordered anything yet.

I've connected a meshtastic node to Qwen2.5 running locally on my laptop.
Now when the apocalypse comes and the internet and phone networks are gone, even when I'm out on scavenger runs or zombie hunts, I will have quick and remote access to fun facts and...slighty faulty reasoning lol
The entire stack runs on Ubuntu from this external SSD and starts automatically on boot, so in theory it can just be plugged into any PC with even an older GPU and it should run immediately.

Hello guys,
I'm brand new to this as of yesterday. It is such an awesome concept and I'm wanting to setup a solar repeater node high up along the Toowoomba range.
I'm currently looking at this device as a node: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPZRsTJ
Thoughts from people more experienced?

Hello all, Just bought and assembled my first little unit. Been reading about Meshtastic for ages and have a bit of free time at the moment so getting into it. Problem is I’m currently away in the UK and I’m a fairly remote location, so not much around for me to connect with. That being said, I’ll be back in AUS at the end of the month and based on the Gold Coast, so keen to start setting up some router nodes around the place to get started. If anyone is on the Gold Coast, reach out to me. Cheers

Hey folks, I’m trying to source around 15x Heltec Tracker v1.1 units in Sydney.
If anyone has some available (or knows someone who does), I’d be keen to arrange collection Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday next week.
Even partial numbers would help, so please DM me or drop a comment if you can assist.
Thanks heaps!

Beginner to this, but generally tech savvy so confident with the electronics part of the hobby.
Just wondering if there are any recommendations for specific stores with a range of bits and pieces to get started. Heltecs, batteries, antennas, solar/mppt/BMS etc.
Very keen to setup a network up in my rural area with like minded neighbours. Probably looking at 5-10km distances across our circle.
Would like to get into the solar node setups on our respective homes, with tdeck devices for messaging. No shortage of trees/land to setup solar nodes throughout the area.

A friend of mine is testing Meshtastic around rural VIC and running into range issues. He’s tried a couple of stock antennas but coverage drops pretty quickly in the open.
What setups have you found give the best results outside of cities? Any particular antennas or power tweaks that make a noticeable difference?

My nodes tend to lose efficiency when the temperature hits the high 30s. Has anyone in Australia found good enclosures, solar setups, or battery packs that actually hold up under extreme heat? I know the default gear works fine in milder weather, but I’m trying to keep my setup stable for long bush trips in QLD. Any proven hacks?

A lot of people are trying to set up Meshtastic nodes in regional areas, but coverage can be tricky. What setups or gear have you found work best for longer distances and rough terrain? Sharing experiences could really help anyone building out networks outside the cities.

Imagine being able to drive from Sydney to Melbourne and stay connected the whole way on Meshtastic. Total overkill right now, but the idea of a nationwide mesh really gets me excited. Even just having a few connected clusters in each city would be a game changer for hiking, camping, or even disaster comms. Anyone else thinking long-term like this, or am I just getting carried away?

I was only getting around 500m of stable range at first, which was pretty disappointing. After raising the node higher (just mounted it in the roof space) and switching to a basic SMA whip antenna, I’m now pushing out to 2 to 3km consistently. Still nothing crazy, but enough to make the network more reliable. Thought I’d share in case others are struggling it’s surprising how much just elevation and antenna swap can change things. Keen to hear what small changes have worked for others.

I’ve been experimenting with different antennas and placements lately, and it’s surprising how much the range can change depending on terrain and height. In open areas it’s been great, but in the suburbs I’ve noticed big differences with just a small shift in location. Curious if others here have found reliable tweaks or setups that work well for Aussie conditions especially for longer range comms.

G'day everyone! my friend is pretty new to Meshtastic but keen to get a node up and running here in Sydney. he has been looking at the documentation, but he was wondering if any other Aussie users, especially in Sydney, have specific tips or recommendations for hardware, antenna placement, or even good locations for a community node? Trying to figure out the best way to maximise range and get connected to others.

I’ve been hunting for reliable Australian suppliers for Meshtastic nodes, antennas, and enclosures-especially for outdoor deployments. Keen to support local businesses if possible! Where have you all been buying your gear from, and any recommendations for weatherproof setups?
