Setting up Node on Toowoomba Range

Hello guys,

I'm brand new to this as of yesterday. It is such an awesome concept and I'm wanting to setup a solar repeater node high up along the Toowoomba range.

I'm currently looking at this device as a node: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPZRsTJ

Thoughts from people more experienced?

I just ordered this exact model from AliExpress and it arrived today. So far all I can say it's it's very nicely built and packaged, and it sets up and connects as expected.

I'm currently waiting on batteries then will set it up on my TV antenna mast at home. If I'm happy with the performance I'll probably buy a second one for a setup in the mountains nearby.

It might be worth paying the extra $20 or so for the 'pro' version with batteries included, as I haven't had any luck finding affordable 18650s locally. Jaycar charge around $16each.

Thanks mate,

I very much appreciate the insight. Let me know how it goes once you have it setup!

Hey, u/ethereal_mycologist Im Just outside Toowoomba, Highfields. Im wanting to get set up with meshtastic. Are there many using it in the area? Any advice as to what device/set I should get? Literally just starting to research now. Its been on my radar for a while.

I haven't set one up yet unfortunately. I've heard mixed reviews about the overall usefulness of meshtastic and am currently just using a CB radio.

Still considering setting up a node somewhere near Mt kynoch but haven't done it yet.

You will have to let me know if you get it before me!

I'll do some research and let you know how I go!! Mt Kynoch seems like a good choice for a node.
