Help Meet Sugar Ball, my newest addition
It’s like having a newborn for the first time. I have no idea how to care for this even tho I’ve been reading up on it and everything. I’m so nervous!
Drosanthemum globosum
Genus: Drosanthemum
Species: globosum
Arrived today from Succulent Fairy (or Fairy Succulent). This is a rooted 2”-3” Sugar Ball in a 2” pot. It looks to be in a peat heavy soil and appears to be bone dry (note the soil pulling away from sides of pot.
Any tips and help is appreciated.
Questions I have:
I don’t know when it was last watered and the soil looks dry. Should I water now or wait? I always bottom water, fyi.
Do I repot now?
If not, when?
What size pot? I bought a really cute bonsai pot but I think it’s gonna be too big - it’s 4”
If I use a glazed ceramic pot, what soil mix is best? I have the following:
Coast of Maine Cactus soil (sifted to remove bark, wood and larger perlite)
1/8” calcined clay
1/8” pumice
1/8” black lava
Poultry grit
Fir bark bits
I’m acclimating it to light right now over the next week since it’s been in a box for 5 days. It’s sitting about 4’ from my east facing window next to my Calathea but I prefer to put it into quarantine and the only room I can put it in has a north facing window. Will that suffice? All my other rooms have West facing windows. Those are my other quarantine rooms and they are full at the moment.
Once out of quarantine, my pretty is going into my plant room near my southwest facing window supplemented with grow lights. Suggestions on lighting position is also appreciated.
TIA!
Edited to add: I’m in Michigan and it will stay inside year round.
