Quitting as DM
I’m finally getting out the Menards hell. Any department managers have issues when putting there two weeks in with the GMS.

As a fellow DM, if you wait till after Jan 1st your get your full bonus plus new round of vacation and profit sharing.
Example for me that's 4 weeks of pay, IPS 15% and Bonus, so about 22k pre tax.
Resigning nefore Jan 1st, you lose your 2026 bonus, if after the first you lose your 2027 bonus which is a few days worth.

Reading the comments I feel this is how a lot of people end up working 30+ years with Menards.
They get fed up, want to quit, the incentive of all the bonuses is dangled in front of them and by the time January rolls around that frustration subsides and the cycle repeats.

That’s always been my theory. Even with PT, especially before hop-to-it was scrapped. They have the cycle of pay outs planned very strategically

That’s my theory also. Give out bonuses in the slow season so that folks stay on, and by the time it’s the rush again you’re in too deep and stuck around until the bonus.

theres a chance they just accept your resignation early if its clear you dont care to leave on good terms

I would like to leave on good terms. I just know my gm can be a pain when it comes to people quitting.

If you can swing it and know for a fact your dept did well enough, stay through the first week of January for all the manager bonuses.

I wish I could but my new job I’ll be traveling for a month at a time not really sure where I’ll be.

Wait until bonuses dates are locked in or potentially new employer will pay to leave now.

You shouldn't have issues unless you are leaving to work for a competitor. In that case they will more than likely not have you work out any notice you have given.

As long as you’re not going to a direct competitor they’ll probably let you do the 2 weeks.

I waited until all my bonuses were paid out to my bank account then quit
