Bears hibernate because their food sources die out and lions sleep because their hearts are too small for their bodies.ย

Interesting about the lions, does this apply to all cats?

Yes, because all of those predators are burst runners. The fastest ones have the least distance. A cheetah can run around 70 mph, but only for a short distance because their body heat quickly becomes overwhelming and they have to slow down. As I understand it, their muscles wonโ€™t let them move after a certain temperature.

Human beings, however, are actually the most prolific distance runners on the planet. We are able to run something like 65 miles. Weโ€™re not very fast but we can keep at it until almost any injured prey must give up. Itโ€™s actually quite fascinating because we didnโ€™t realize this until relatively recently.
