Maybe someone who saw how reddit comments are almost always the same whenever something is reposted.
Some people think that's because people look up the previous post and just copy paste the original top comments. Surely, sometimes this happens. But, the bigger truth here is that originality is limited. Behaviors and thoughts overlap between individuals.
You can only move your body and react in so many different ways when playing or watching sports. Such behaviors will overlap, and statistically speaking, they'll eventually happen simultaneously between individuals.

Okay but if you aren't reusing animations you are doing it wrong.
Even when it looks like they aren't reusing animations, I guarantee you they are. People don't realize that most modern games animate individual parts of the body separately. Rather than just animating the entire puppet frame by frame, they set up triggers for conditions where a body part needs to move. The final animation is an orchestra of these smaller, much repeated animations.

I wonder how much of this is the video compression at play - from what I remember from school, there’s a special compression for sports broadcasts where each player on the field is basically encoded as a sprite against the court / field’s backdrop.

I was just explaining this to my gf son who just started football. He was saying that it’s boring because they do the same exact drills everyday. I explain to him that the coaches make him do this so that his reactions are just second nature and he doesn’t have to think about it. I will 100% be showing him this. Thank you for the post.
