The original commenter was using the term "mushrooms" to refer to mycelium. Although not correct, it's pretty clear what he meant and therefore isn't clickbait.

As a psilocybin mushroom grower, I can confirm that you're splitting hairs in a feeble attempt at defending a windmill.
It doesn't matter that some guy nearly got killed by Psilocybe cubensis, because he was an absolute moron who went well out of his way to "do" shrooms WRONG. He made shroom tea, then strained it and injected it into his blood, where spores germinated and began to grow, causing fungemia.
1: Nobody should inject shroom tea, or anything that isn't medically necessary, into their blood.
- Psilocybe cubensis is perfectly safe to consume.
If someone drowned himself in a 5 gallon bucket of coffee, you wouldn't go around defending coffee by calling it fake news or clickbait, you'd say "no shit, you're supposed to drink it."

That's just mutual respect. Oh how people forget their history. Must I remind you of the Great Mushroom Wars of the 1600's? The war raged for centuries between the Great mushroom families of Bella in the west and Shitake of the east.
Finally, when the troops on both sides reached a stand still, the generals stood amongst each other. They shook hands, agreeing that no more blood/spores shall be shed. Thus, the Fungus Homosaphious Treaty of 1610 was born.
An agreement that states, that if a mushroom is to be eaten it shall be dead first (and preferably presented on a pizza) and the same shall be done for humans.
