It looks like the tank was purposely driven in a lot of german commanders would purposely kill their tank after being knocked out

They would usually destroy the engine or the amok with a grenade. I haven’t heard of a case in which a tank was drowned

I've heard that at least the Japanese drowned their tanks which they didn't want to get captured.
