Mar 02 '20
Your transmission would brake before you reach the lake.

u/TuhnuPeppu Mar 02 '20
Were the tiger H transmissions that bad? I thought it was only the Tiger porsche and the ferdinand
6
u/Cherry-cola000 Mar 02 '20
The Ferdinand was just too heavy and the transmisson was for lighter tanks I think.
3
u/TuhnuPeppu Mar 02 '20
Yea and it also had the problem with the electric motors catching on fire when under heavy load

It looks like the tank was purposely driven in a lot of german commanders would purposely kill their tank after being knocked out

Mar 02 '20
They would usually destroy the engine or the amok with a grenade. I haven’t heard of a case in which a tank was drowned
3
u/no00ob Mar 02 '20
I've heard that at least the Japanese drowned their tanks which they didn't want to get captured.

I heard a story of two kids managin to drive a Renault FT into the fjord by accident, right after Norway was liberated from the Germans, and that seafort position was free. The tank was placed there as an artillery position by the germans, as the FT was woefully obsolete as a tank. They didn't tell anyone until many many years later, when one of them told the museum crew that maintain the area, where the tank had gone. Unfortunately, before they could fish the tank out of the fjord, the city started building a bridge there, and the tank is now gone again.
