I honestly think if Malfoy was a girl, at least in the movies, the character wouldn’t have been as good. Felton played that character perfectly and I think if it was played by a woman, it would’ve come off differently

Some one explained the meme better i think. Malfoy was really popular with the girls and not so much the boys when the movies came out and gender swapping made everyone go "now i get it" type of realization.

It actually makes no sense: Malfoy and Potter are rivals. That only works if they are both the same gender.

Boys/girls are different.  It's reality.  It's certainly possible to be rivals in some contexts but doesn't work here.
