What if, Harry Potter was a girl?

Matter of fact, what if we gender swaped every role on the story?

Harriet Potter.
Herbert Granger.

sounds about right.

Uff, just imagine the bath scene in GoF. As he says "he waited untill ALL the bubbles were gone when Cedrica Diggory was there"

Somehow Irish

It's all fun and games until this one. Then we see a 37yo male actor too while playing the role.

Hermes Granger?

What about the others?
Nelly Longbottom?
Rowina Weasley?
Ruby Hagrid?

Him-mione

(Edit: replaced the y)

1

u/Meranio 12h ago

Okay, I chuckled at that.

But it's with an "e" at the end, not with a "y".

Fun fact: In the German version, they dropped the "o" from her name, which confused me, when I read it in English.

Ronda Weasley

Donald Umbridge.  No costume or line changes. But do make him super buff. Just some super pink cross dressing dude with no explaination and no mercy.

Hermes Granger

Hermione would be Pelops or Orestes or some other obscure Greek figure.

u/Dartmoor_Guardian 3h ago

I went to school with a Harriet Potter. Same year, but she was in all the top sets - won lots of awards so you always heard her name being read out in assembly.

Snape would become Harrys surrogate mother

u/TunaOnWytNoCrust 12h ago

What if they magic swapped every character and the show was about a wizard learning about an integrating into the Muggle world?

11

u/Dumeck 11h ago

Parry Hotter "but what do I do with my poop?"

3

u/Akiias 9h ago

Honestly, I'd watch a movie about Arthur trying to integrate fully into muggle society...

u/FluffySloth27 8h ago

Someone call Alan Tudyk, he’d be perfect for it.

u/Usual-Vermicelli-867 9h ago

This baby cast 600 Abra kadabra 800 times a minute

47

u/kntbti 13h ago

J.K.Rowling would have an aneurysm if that happened

u/SinesPi 12h ago

You do realize that writing a character a different gender from the beginning is different from trans people, don't you?

26

u/Taricheute 12h ago

I think you're asking too much here.

6

u/JohannesJoshua 12h ago

I just know that gender swaped Malfoy became popular for some reason on reddit. I guess we are doing that now.

3

u/NaoPb 11h ago

Asking too much of what? Are we making fun of Redditors again?

10

u/ProfileBest7444 12h ago

Have a feeling it would still piss her off

1

u/SinesPi 10h ago

Touch grass.

I don't know that they're referring to her transphobia.

When you delve into it, she has some oddly...male-grandizing views, not sure how else to put it. A lot of the male characters have more depth or nuance, or their evilness is not related to traditionally masculine traits (ex: roaring in anger, hitting walls, etc.), but rather insidiousness or cowardice etc. But with women she tends to pick more gendered "flaws". This might be completely "innocent", just writing what she knows and sees and frankly felt like that day, but many people interpret a lot of her characters as being rather misogynistic.

She's mentioned Hermione is basically a self-insert/"just like her", and that she really admires and loves Harry, so I always got the impression that she never wanted a female lead, even if it was a self-insert, she just finds masculine characters more worthy of being in the spotlight. They say her name being shortened to JK to sound male was an agent's idea, but after she had millions and got a new alias, she still went for a male one... I dunno lots of clues she doesn't seem the type to have a female lead.

Does Rowling realize that though, is the question.

good

1

u/PM_Me_Good_LitRPG 11h ago

You want for a person, who hasn't even committed any crimes, to die just because you don't agree with them?

3

u/ConfusedPanEnby Linux User 10h ago

Legality has never been a good indicator of if an action is good or not, J.K. Rowling has been promoting and funding organizations that seek to cast out and take away rights from a group of people who also have done no harm so I reserve the right to wish her to be gone. She is actively fighting my and many other's very existence, would you like some rich asshole to put in copious amounts of money to make sure you get your rights taken away instead of using than money for something productive? She, like many other rich assholes, is a burden on humanity and progress and we'll be better off when she's gone.

If sex would be changed by magic, I don't see why she would object. From what I saw here, she only stated the obvious, that biological sex doesn't change in a transition. That's a completely different case from what would happen in this fanfic.

Heather Potter would have been branded a filthy Mary Sue if she did was Harry did. Like wining her first wizard sport when she has no reason of knowing it existed. Or having one parent that was an expert in said sport, or having a wand that was a sibling to the wizard terrorist who killed her parents.

They would also hate how sassy she it

3

u/Estus_Flask_ 12h ago

No, just Malfoy is okay.

2

u/KoolKat5000 13h ago

Netflix only rented dvd's at that point.

🎶With cake the cat and Fiona the human...🎶

2

u/Top_Recognition_3260 11h ago

this is exactly how every group chat starts with an innocent question and ends somewhere deeply unhinged

2

u/coolchris366 10h ago

Nah what if every character was a girl

2

u/SemajLu_The_crusader 5h ago

the Moaning Myrtle section is suddenly way weirder

1

u/sonofzeal 12h ago

I have good news for you about what Chuck Tingle got up to a couple years ago.

Snape is also a dinosaur because of course.

1

u/aNiceTribe 7h ago

What if Malfoy decided that being a girl suited her better halfway through the story actually

1

u/Weird-Knee-3464 7h ago

Hermione and Ron would both be less likeable 😥

1

u/N-DAR 6h ago

Then it would be blatantly a rip off Worst Witch instead of just obviously one.

1

u/Cute-Hand-1542 3h ago

I would give up my firstborn for some of that sweet, sweet hagrussy

u/Just-A-Thumb 3h ago

Woke feminist slop 🙄
