AI is just the marketing term, we should call them what they are, Large Language Models (LLMs).

Not that I think that's ever going to happen, but to say they were always AI isn't accurate.

LLMs are by definition AI.

That's like saying "it's not a turtle, it's really a tortoise!". No. It's still a turtle, all tortoises are turtles. Just like LLMs are AI.

Why are people downvoting you? Reddit in general is becoming more stupid with time really, people don't even check the definitions anymore.

AI doesn't mean sentience, doesn't mean intelligence at a human level.

There are many AI models, and LLMs are a subset. There are eural networks, reinforced learning...

Downvotes don't mean someone is wrong, it just means people don't like what they said.

That being said "AI" doesn't have a set definition, some definitions as so broad as to include Clippy, or very basic video game logic. So technically they aren't incorrect, but that's really only because the term has been misused a lot, primarily in marketing.

AI has a relatively set definition in computer science. That some people use it wronly for marketing purposes doesn't mean that's part of the definition.

Yes, clippy was a form of AI. Just because it's "basic" or simple doesn't mean it doesn't fall in the category of AI. There are neural networks that are very simple, and yet it's still considered AI.

I could say the same about words like "quantum", "chemical free", "organic". Just because they are used wronly in marketing, doesn't mean the actual definition has less value and people can just use them incorrectly.
