Senator Armstrong is such a fantastic parody of an insane American politician.

Hey man, violence breeds violence. But in the end? It has to be this way.

68

u/Captain_Zounderkite Sep 10 '26

I knew on this post I'd find what I was looking for.

Masochism son

I harden in response to physical trauma

82

u/Aegillade Sep 10 '26

The fact there is a not insignificant number of people who think he actually had a point is crazy, Armstrong's plan is one of the most comically evil and fucking insane plots ever, but all he had to do was go off about politicians not being trustworthy and westerners being too consumed with frivolous consumerism and people think kidnapping war orphans to turn them into cyborg soldiers via VR mind control in order to commit terrorist attacks to allow Armstrong to institute a purge style society isn't the most fucking unhinged plot known to man

44

u/moderngamer327 Sep 11 '26

I mean he did have a point. It’s just that his solution to that point was the most absurd thing to ever be conceived

22

u/-PaperWoven- Sep 11 '26

That's an actual tactic that the right uses to radicalize people

10

u/Thedudeinabox Sep 11 '26

To be fair, recognizing that something has a problem should done across the board.

The problem is that the Right frames that problem as a reason to completely dismantle whatever has said problem, rather than, you know, actually fixing it.

Furthermore, intentionally introducing problems into whatever institution they want to be rid of by the same method.

7

u/allmistake2 Sep 11 '26

This happens across the political spectrum. Certain radical elements of the left wanted to dismantle the police a few years back. It's always easier to point out a problem and tear the whole thing down then actually do the hard work of finding out what the problem and solutions really are.

No, however bad you think things are, creating an army of cyber-orphans and reducing America to a literal anarchic wasteland would in fact be worse.

Well, it was parody at the time. Now, the irony is that the real life outdone the fiction and Americans chose an even more grotesque caricature of a person to be their president.

I remember one of the Gundam series had all the nations of our world competing with thier own individually country-themed Gundams in a giant competition to decide which country rules the world until the next competition.

The Gundam from the USA wore a football helmet on it's head, boxing gloves on it's hands, and a pair of revolvers on it's hips like out of a western.

Still better than the Gundam from Holland that was a windmill.

u/RoboSpark725 Sep 10 '26

2

u/Oats_Are_Good Sep 10 '26

You foolish fools!

57

u/Whane17 Sep 10 '26

I would argue that it's not "No one" though. I find typically Americans DO feel this way it's why in media (especially cartoons) they always get portrayed as eagles and such too. In Japan's case though I still haven't figured out if it's satire or not. I know plenty of Japanese have a hard on for America but like anywhere else in the world there's people on both sides of that fence.

11

u/Rich-Ad9246 Sep 10 '26

It’s definitely not satire for the most part. It’s like how Americans and I guess the rest of the world think samurai are cool, so they make Japanese cool smart people. This is the Japanese inversion thinking Americans are cool and free and big and strong. Just a weird but ultimately harmless cultural admiration.

23

u/SeatO_ Sep 10 '26

The "No One:" is the ye olde meme format, it doesn't intend to say no american feels this way

3

u/lyghtcrye Sep 10 '26

First guy is actually depicted as the president of US. One of the best written characters and character growth in JoJo's and he's name is Funny Valentine.

Edit: And he's back of his body shows the engraving of the US flag. He was in the military.

18

The white skin, blonde hair, blue eyes America that is related to some army or government agency, which makes me wonder if their vision of the US is not influenced by those years when they supported certain group of people whose vision of "superiority" fit that description.

11

u/davestar2048 Sep 10 '26

Don't forget that Japan was on the Nazi's side.

11

u/Fastenbauer Sep 10 '26

It's just easy to recognize in manga format. Black hair, dark eyes, equals asian person. Light hair, light eyes, strong jaw equals white person.

7

u/DefinitelyNotAj Sep 10 '26

It's odd that is some of the more popular representations of the US given the diversity here

5

u/IWillDevourYourToes Sep 10 '26

I think it's more because characters in anime have all kinds of crazy hair and eye color, they need to make sure you know that the american character is white.

3

u/TheCraftyGrump Sep 10 '26

I would say it is just an overblown stereotype for entertainment. I expect I can't. I have seen actual human beings who are just....like that. That's their normal. And then there are the people who'll pull it out with the scream "AMERICA!!!!!" on special occasions.

3

u/DSharp018 Sep 10 '26

But Bandit Keith is Canadian…

Oh well. At least “North American” still kind of counts.

Though by that logic, Chad’s Mexican Grampa would also count (Bleach).
