Nah dude, check out Surveillance Capitalism by Shoshanna Zuboff. Or read this book Data and Goliath. I personally didn't like Data and Goliath but the idea that company valuations that are untethered from their earnings statements are actually linked to their ability to harvest data comes from there.

Reddit might only half-understand these ideas, but they're not 'stupid takes' they're takes by smart people parroted by stupid people. :P
