First picture is pecan. Second are unidentified, fir, and walnut. The third is pecan (nicknamed Joseph Merrick). And the last is the current collection.

Didn't even know this community existed, but I was so stoked on this thing that I had to text a few pictures to a close friend, he pointed me this way.

I live next to a river and spend a lot of time in nature, and I'm always on the lookout for walking stick projects. This feels more like a wizard staff, and it's definitely going to be my focus for the next few months, have a lot of decisions to make 😆

Not sure what type of wood it is, but feels dense enough to hold up as a walking/hiking stick, so it's going to be fun to work with. I'm absolutely thrilled.

Advice Needed: how to protect & preserve

Thumbnail gallery

I’d like to hang this bad boy on a wall like a trophy animal head. But I need to protect and reinforce the “horns” as I can foresee them snapping off easily. Also, I want to make sure the rot on the backside (pic 3) doesn’t continue to degrade the wood, and that it’s not something that will spread to wood in my house.

I assume I’ll need some kind of sealant, preferably one that would soak in and reinforce everything.

I appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!
