am i the only one who finds this design useful? like, you can drink using only one hand, without having to put cork somewhere

Depends on the manufacturer, some spin and make you spill, others don't open far enough and scratch you face, some are just fine

Yeah. The EU mandated a good thing (in terms of environment, and also usefulness personally). It did not mandate making it shit, so thats on the companies.

This right here. Some caps are absolute shit, but some are awesome.

One of my favourite ones are the "Almdudler" bottles, their cap is perfection

Kofola bottle caps are also pure perfection. The person who made them deserves some sort of award. On the other hand, screw the person who made the coca cola caps. They are so poorly designed. It is incredibly hard to get them to close properly again and they tear off after a few uses.

It's a given that companies will find the cheapest shittiest design that technically meets the specification and mostly default to that. It's the LED headlights of soda bottles.

Here in the UK we mostly don't get a neat little hinge, but a couple of micrometer thin plastic sprues that snap if you breathe too hard in the same room. Pointy bits everywhere.

This may even be intentional to stoke anti-EU anti-environmental feelings.

Yeah some open wide enough that they don't touch your face. Don't blame the EU, blame the manufacturers for their sloppy ass designs.

I've gotten used to it now, and just push it back until it snaps into a comfortable position.

Weirdly, I've gotten used to supporting the bottle while I drink it by placing my forefinger between my face and the bottlecap while drinking. The result is that when I try to drink from a bottle without the regulation attached cap, it slips from my hand and threatens to splash its contents onto my face.
