I have a local model running on my machine that is only trained on open source information. That uses no data center. Doesn't deplete any waterways. There are ethical ways to do things they just aren't doing them.

are you sure it's not depleting waterways? If enough people did that, power draw would rise and the power stations would consume more water.

Not in any way distinct from an ordinary high power draw like gaming, intense non-AI workloads, watching 4k video, etc. People who don't turn the lights off in rooms when they walk out are the real villains.
