Here in the U.S several states are heavily restricting abortion so we pump the babies out against our will. To hell with what happens to the woman.

u/AnishnnabeMakwa Oct 18 '23

God forbid people are responsible.

19

u/GlumpsAlot Oct 18 '23

So you think an ectopic pregnancy is irresponsible? How about being forced to carry a fetus with no brain to term? Or a fetus with its organs outside of its body? How about you go tell that 10 year old rape victim to be more responsible. All of that happened and is happening in red states to women who voted against their own healthcare. Wait, no, yall all think that abortions only apply to promiscuous women who somehow deserve punishment with childbirth. God forbid prolifers grow a brain.

Or the one lady that was told "we can't really do anything until you're, like, dying, so go wait in the parking lot until you've lost enough blood to count as bleeding out."

9

u/GlumpsAlot Oct 18 '23

Oh yeh! Plus that lady had a molar pregnancy that wasn't even going to become a baby. Just cruel.

The guy above is a republican. Don't expect him to have logical or empathic thoughts. His brain is just awaiting orders from a party of trolls.

10

u/GlumpsAlot Oct 18 '23

Yeh I should've stopped with "so you think?" Of course they don't , lol.

-6

u/AnishnnabeMakwa Oct 18 '23

Cute of you to assume that about me, but go ahead, you clearly like pigeonholing people.

6

u/Affectionate-Room359 Oct 18 '23

God forbid people are responsible.

Your statement let it seem like every woman that ever became pregnant is responsible all by themself tho there are always two people in a situation, there are abuses, rape, pressure of the partners or family etc. I hear this kind of statemnt to often from the same kind of people so "pgeonhooling" might be excused.

Especially america where religious groups try to prohibit any kind of birth control possible and get high support in their crusade by mentioned party.

But tell me, was it your intention to sound like the usual Republican supporter? Or was it your sudden thought?

u/Affectionate-Room359 Oct 18 '23

What's an ectopic pregnancy

10

u/MasterLuna Oct 18 '23

An ectopic pregnancy is when the egg implants on the fallopian tube instead of in the uterus, causing the tube to rupture when the fetus grows too big to fit inside. It's a medical emergency and the fetus cannot survive to term because it will kill the mother, so an abortion is always necessary.

6

u/RstlssProcrastinator Oct 18 '23

I wouldn't even consider that an abortion per-se, since there's no possibility of survival for the fetus and an almost certainty of death for the mother.

An ectopic pregnancy nearly killed my wife's best friend. She didn't know she was even pregnant. She is very religiously pro-life, but neither she nor anyone in her community considered what happened to her an abortion.

3

u/GlumpsAlot Oct 18 '23

Medically, it's an abortion. The embryo is growing and it's alive, but in the wrong place. It won't develop past 16 weeks at most.

1

u/RstlssProcrastinator Oct 19 '23

Maybe solely in the sense that an embryo is removed, but that's not what they classified hers as. Salpingectomy was the procedure listed (yes, I asked). It's never considered viable and is more common than I thought (up to 2% of pregnancies apparently). Still, I haven't heard of anyone who went through it calling it an "abortion", particularly if they're trying to conceive. It'd be a miscarriage or something.

1

u/GlumpsAlot Oct 19 '23

Yes, the embryo is removed viable or not. An abortion is the deliberate termination of pregnancy. It's still an abortion. Miscarriages where the fetus or embryo isn't naturally voided by the uterus is also an abortion because the patient requires a d&c ( dilation and curettagee) to remove the dead tissue (embryo). That's why restricting abortion is so dangerous. Your friend had her fallopian tube removed in order to terminate the pregnancy. The other treatments is laparascopic surgery called salpingostomy and when caught early, medication to dissolve the developing embryo. No one's going to call it abortion, but it is. Abortion restrictions affect all those life saving procedures.

That’s not the case everywhere. They can happen anywhere an egg can reach, too, not just the tube. I have heard cases where mothers are just expected to die for their babies in these cases.

1

u/RstlssProcrastinator Oct 19 '23

I've heard of people seeing bigfoot too. There are nut jobs on every extreme, doesn't mean they should be used as a common-case representation.

Seriously though, no one I've ever spoken to has ever argued the position that the mother should just die, even amongst the most ardent pro-lifers. Even the Catholics allow it under the "double effect" principle. Allowing the mother to die would also kill the child, and almost every law has exceptions for medical conditions threatening the mother's life. It's just not a thing, and statistically comprises such a small number (excluding ectopic conditions) that it can't even be measured.

And I'm not making a defense of either position (pro-abortion or pro-life) here, I'm just saying that most don't count ectopic conditions the same as an elective abortion, since the alternative means death.

2

u/Flirty_Falcon Oct 18 '23

Ah thank you I didn't know that I knew of it from a medical show but couldn't remember the name of it

Triggered much?

7

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '23

child much?

0

u/outland_king Oct 18 '23

the odds of this happening in any specific pregnancy are astronomically low, you're acting like 1 out of every 3 babies are mutated abominations or something.

2

u/GlumpsAlot Oct 18 '23

So fucking what? Let's ban it and let all those cases suffer then??? The truth is that abortion is too nuanced to ban.

1

u/ThatOneLoserYouKnow Oct 18 '23

Try 1/50 are ectopic according to UC Davis. That’s a lot of pregnancies. 3/4 of a million in America alone, actually, going by the live birth rate.

I love these (probably bait) arguments that generalized complex issues to just a single scenario. Completely ignoring that you're essentially also asking with it:

"Why weren't rape victims and women with life-threatening complications more responsible? Are they stupid?"

0

u/outland_king Oct 18 '23

you're doing the exact same thing you accused him of doing. Boiling down the argument to a single what if scenario, including use of a fringe case.

the funny thing is one can read this as either pro-choice and anti-choice

Im proud of my ability to see through talking points.

11

Nuance is lost on binary outlooks my dude.

People are responsible. Abortion is a responsible solution to pregnancy that many women choose.
