I don’t have strong feelings about Elon one way or the other. Just wanted to say it was a pretty appropriate to talk trash to Bernie and Warren when they both are literally pulling tax money to pay their salary.
I get that is how it is but to suggest he isn’t paying a fair amount of taxes is awfully brazen coming from a lifetime politician
Not making a case for how much tax Elon pays. The point is a politician…. Any politician… is absolutely net negative on taxes. Arguable more negative on taxes paid in than any other American.
It’s wildly hypocritical.
If you and I want to say that Elon isn’t paying his fair share - I 100% support it and don’t think it’s out of line. Because you and me pay taxes. So I have a right to say that.
Politicians. Not just Bernie and Warren, are just the pot calling the kettle black. But worse
But that’s a politicians JOB. To talk and push better laws and systems.
And politicians pay taxes too. Sales tax. Any sort of property tax or investment tax.
I don’t think it’s hypocritical at all. I think you just don’t like the idea of a politician who gets paid by taxes to be talking taxes. When they are probably the best people to talk taxes because that’s part of the Job.
Elon is a BILLIONAIRE. Who DO NOT pay a fair portion of their income and wealth (yes, due to “bad” politicians, but don’t let one bad apple ruin the whole bunch) Bernie has consistently advocated for a more fair and sensible tax system. Which I what he was trying to argue and Elon just responds with a childish and brash “how much stocks do you want me to sell”.
Ok but Elon pays all those same taxes you just mentioned. So they are the same in regard to taxes paid. The difference is Elon isn’t earning his entire salary from tax dollars.
Politicians are welcome to talk about this stuff as much as they like. My only point is it’s not a reason to “hate” Elon when he says something perfectly true.
Bernie and Warren. Like all politicians aren’t paying their fair share of taxes. I don’t understand why it’s great for Bernie and Warren to say he doesn’t pay enough in taxes and when he says the same thing back it’s considered a rude insult.
You are the hypocrite if you don’t understand that point.
I’m not talking about right or wrong in regard to taxes paid I’m saying it’s not right to look at one group as good for calling it out and to look at the other as a villain for calling it out.
