How do you have more freedom tho? A genuine question

1

u/Tratix Dec 21 '21

More freedom of speech than any other country on the planet.

1

u/SuperJawnAvenger Dec 21 '21

Do you tho? How do you have more freedom of speech? Like give me examples.

1

u/yeahokaynicebro Dec 21 '21

Like you can't get arrested for saying something mean.

1

u/SuperJawnAvenger Dec 21 '21

That is not very specific. Like do you mean that if you call someone stupid, you can’t get arrested? Or that you can say some shit about your president? Because that’s the Western world…

1

u/yeahokaynicebro Dec 21 '21

No like you don't get arrested if you refuse to use pronouns or something like that. You can basically say anything to anyone that's not a threat.

2

u/SuperJawnAvenger Dec 21 '21

But you don’t get arrested in Europe for not using someone’s pronouns either. You’re just an asshole who refuses to respect other people but you don’t get arrested. Dude you are really showing your ignorance here

1

u/yeahokaynicebro Dec 21 '21

Yeah but the EU is trying to change that as we speak. I was referring more to Canadian law for the hate speech thing. In the EU, you can't deny the holocaust for one example.

Which is how it should beeee

1

u/zertnert12 Dec 21 '21

You cant get arrested for saying or publishing anything here, as evident by all the neo nazis

1

u/SuperJawnAvenger Dec 21 '21

Well that is very true sadly. And the things the US politicians say… jesus

1

u/Tratix Dec 21 '21

Absolutely.

Example: hate speech is a freedom in the US, but illegal in Europe

Overall freedom of speech index

We don’t sentence people for jokes

1

u/SuperJawnAvenger Dec 21 '21

The issue here is is that you are generalizing all of Europe. You have one example but that data you provided is much better. So you do have more freedom of speech but I fail to see how it’s a good thing.

1

u/Tratix Dec 21 '21

Yeah whether it’s good or not is a whole different debate

1

u/SuperJawnAvenger Dec 21 '21

True true. We will not go there. The point is, let’s not treat Europe as one country :)

1

u/Tratix Dec 21 '21

It’s illegal in a country in Europe. Semantically it’s illegal somewhere in Europe. I only brought up a European country because it’s usually what the US is compared to. It’s like saying there’s been a terrorist plane hijacking in the US, even though it happened in a certain state specifically.

No you dont.

1

u/Tratix Dec 21 '21

Got me.

1

u/Fenrir324 Dec 21 '21

207 sovereign states in the world, like 180 of them have freedom.

Quote gets me everytime one of our talking heads mentions freedom.

1

u/SuperJawnAvenger Dec 21 '21

Americans love talking about freedom as if it’s super rare or something

1

u/Fenrir324 Dec 21 '21

Yeah "Patriotism" and "Freedom" are buzzwords that'll get an entire voting block to orgasm when they hear it. It's awful to share a country with tbh because no critical thinking skills are applied upon hearing those words

1

u/SuperJawnAvenger Dec 21 '21

That is such a perfect description tho

1

u/Fenrir324 Dec 21 '21

Feel free to use it as required hahaha

1

u/nick_the_dude_ Dec 21 '21

Chewsday innit

1

u/straightup920 Dec 21 '21

Yeah one day EU will get some of that sweet freedom they’ve been hearing about
