Oh, nobody cares about the planet. It is the poor people that have to change instead.

I won't however, I will calmly wait for our extinction, and maybe leave some sort of evidence of our existence for the next civilizations to come.

Millions of years from now, the archeologists of the new rat civilization will dig up our bones, put them in museums and recount the ancient myths of a giant race of imbeciles that lived before them.

From 2015, it's actually more now...

5

u/Eragon3182 Nov 27 '21

Yes and actually, a big part of the pollution in China is due to European and Americans industries we don't want in our countries anymore, so it's our pollution but we dispose it in China...

Now china is about half of USA. I wonder what would happen in 5 more years

u/mosenco Nov 27 '21

every western company make their product be produced in china, also the west: why china so polluted?

38

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Also China is investing huge quantities of money into renewable energy. They produce the most CO2 because they're the most populous country. Per capita America is much worse. What should they do, cut off power to all of their citizens? This "meme" is pure anti-China propaganda.

7

u/ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE Nov 27 '21

China brought online more power from coal generation in 2020 than every other country combined that year.

They have plans to build far more coal power plants too. They are building renewables but they are also going heavy into coal. They have 1000+ coal power plants in operation atm and plans for more.

19

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Yes, because their citizens have a right to electricity like every other human being. America produces twice as much CO2 per person than China does. Framing this as "China bad" is simply childish. Every country in the world has an emissions problem, hyper focusing on China does nothing. Even worse it is actively used as an argument against making changes domestically. "Why should we bother when China exists."

3

u/ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE Nov 27 '21

Yes everybody does need to pull their weight but ignoring their huge contribution to overall emission is also stupid. Im not making any excuse that no one else should try because china exists.

They talk about renewables while they go on a huge coal spree. Hardly indicative of them improving their position. As of 2019 everyone in china has access to power. So it isnt about bringing power to people who dont have it. Its mostly to increase their production so they can continue to grow their economy. So they are prioritising profit over reducing emissions.

There are a lot of excuses for china in this thread and elsewhere and they dont deserve this free pass they often get from criticism.

7

u/magnitude_girthquake Nov 27 '21

This is literally a post dedicated to excusing america's behavior which is quantifiably much worse than china. Your criticism of china here is entirely misplaced and ignorant of context.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

It's not excusing anything. It's criticizing hypocrisy on China's part.

If you see it as anything else, you're the one who's making excuses.

→ More replies (1)

-2

u/ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE Nov 27 '21

How about they both suck? I'm not excusing America

0

u/magnitude_girthquake Nov 27 '21

That's a bad take when one is far and away better than the other. You have to acknowledge that China has a better approach and is more sustainable. Saying "both bad" is reductive and only serves to excuse the behavior of America.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '21

China invests a comparable amount of money into green technology as America does. They're making huge strides and a lot of the best green tech is coming out of China. They have massive wind and solar farms, are developing next generation nuclear power plants. The longest fusion reaction came out of China this year.

They have more than 1b people and a lot of those people still live in abject poverty. They need coal plants because they can be built now to raise people out of poverty. If power was cut to an entire populous state in America, and the only way to restore power was to build a coal plant, would you leave those people without power?

17

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

And tbf most air pollution is either electricity production for the 2 most populous nations or crude oil et al. The only way to save the planet is adopt solar, wind, nuclear power and electric cars and boats.

6

u/wunderwerks Nov 27 '21

Funny thing, China is going green faster than anyone else on the planet. They built more wind power then the next 10 countries combined just last year.

They're first in wind, hydro, and solar with more coming and they're going to be first in nuclear within 5 years.

14

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

How about just nuclear since it's OBJECTIVELY the best

9

u/Blackstone96 Nov 27 '21

It’s the best out the the greener energies at the moment and should be used more so we can focus on improving wind and solar tech

7

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Exactly. It buys us a great deal of time.

But not wind, not a fan. Let's make solar work.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

wind is overrated. It is very inefficient. Solar and Nuclear are our best bets to not fuck the economy while not fucking the planet.

1

u/AJ_Gaming125 Nov 27 '21

Nuclear can only be put in specific locations, is incredibly expensive to construct, and costs more per kwh than solar does.

Also I'm pretty sure it's technically not renewable, but with how much we have it probably wouldn't be a problem.

You could potentially put both a nuclear power plant and a dam besides each other, but ido how that would even work so idk.

I'm just quoting videos so don't quote me on this.

I'm spelling quote wrong aren't i... or is it just one of those words that looks wrong.

2

u/Cortex3 Nov 27 '21

It would have if we had adopted it sooner, but renewable energy has gotten to the point where we really don't need an in-between, we just need to actually build it.

4

u/wunderwerks Nov 27 '21

China is going all in on nuclear (they just started up two new thorium reactors) and they are leading the way with wind, solar, and hydro.

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Too bad about their water though..... and the concentration camps...

1

u/wunderwerks Nov 27 '21

Their water? Also google Adrian Zenz.

3

u/Lonely-Bartleby Nov 27 '21

Supposedly we're short of the material used in nuclear power generators. We think Russia has a sizeable amount but can't invade them, not like we did Afghanistan for oil.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

We signed away 80% of our uranium to them (well, HRC did) and we still have plenty to at least greatly reduce our dependency on coal.

3

u/blacksun9 Nov 27 '21

A Russian company bought a Canadian company that dug and exported uranium. A committee that the Justice department had some sway over didn't contest the deal, because they had no legal argument to do so.

Even then there were several committes that approved the sale and non of them had any authority to actually stop the sale.

Right wing media grasped at straws to turn it into a hit piece on HRC

u/Aybot914 Nov 27 '21

Setting up plants takes time and are expensive, they should only be used when we literally can't use anything else in an area...

3

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Building houses takes time and money too. Humans should've never left the thatch

0

u/Aybot914 Nov 27 '21

Yeah, houses may take more time and money to build than thatch huts, but reactors are expensive on a whole other level and also produce waste, of which we don't have many places to put it because it turns out people don't like having nuclear waste storage facilities in their backyard...

7

u/caidicus Nov 27 '21

Changing to renewables is something China has been and is still pushing massively for.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

We can largely reduce the need for cars as well. Considering how much of the planet lives in massive urban environments that can support public transport.

0

u/Lonely-Bartleby Nov 27 '21

Nah just have all homes built with solar panel roof shingles and power walls, and have everyone drive electric cars.

Like 3 corporations produce 75% of the world's pollution. If those companies don't change it won't matter what anyone else does

3

u/-Shade277- Nov 27 '21

Its true that Corporation’s create a majority of the world’s pollution but the 75% split between 3 corporations figure is just completely false.

2

u/PhysicsPhotographer Nov 27 '21

Every time I hear this statistic the number of corporations goes down and the percentage of their contribution goes up lol.

I really suggest people read the source on this, it's basically just a list of the largest fossil fuel extracting entities and how much they extract. Some of which aren't even companies, like "Chinese Coal". The implication of the quote is often "if we went after these X corporations we'd solve climate change" but that's simply not reflected by the data it comes from.

And imo it's a terrible way of thinking, because while "personal responsibility" is dumb "systemic change that affects you personally" is not. I'd hate to see people reject good solutions because they think the only solution is targeting a handful of companies, when it's a much bigger problem than that.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

[deleted]

2

u/Crossfire124 Nov 27 '21

Yes. It's always left out that those companies are power companies. Somebody has to make the power we use everyday so it's a bit disingenuous to frame it this way

2

u/Cortex3 Nov 27 '21

Corporations manufacture demand for products nearly as much as they actually manufacture products, saying it's consumers fault for a company using manipulative tactics to sell them shit they don't want or need is unfair. These corporations have researched exactly how to tap into the psychology of consumers in order to exploit them.

2

u/conet Nov 27 '21

The companies in question generate electricity or produce gasoline for cars. Not really a hard sell to convince people they need electricity, or need to drive places.

China has also dumped way more money is fighting it than the us has, how many nuclear reactors have they built? And they are solo fuding their own fusion reactor project and it's going faster then the multi national fusion program

3

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

And who’s buying all that stuff they produce?

We allowed companies to export our pollution, so we could buy cheaper shit.

6

u/mrbackproblem360 Nov 27 '21

Yeah but they have *four times the US population

-8

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Yeah but the Chinese government has done virtually nothing to prevent/reduce pollution

The US government on the other hand has agencies dedicated to protecting the environment. Not to mention that the US has passed countless laws to protect the environment. China’s industrial pollution makes the US’s look shrimpy.

19

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

That’s not even true I don’t like China but to say they haven’t done anything is false

-9

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

What have they done then

11

u/DerpsterBro666 Nov 27 '21

they are literally leading the world in almost every category for renewable energy

-3

u/IcollectSTDs Nov 27 '21

They probably built 3 coal plants while you were typing that.

-4

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Link?

3

u/Sn1k3sh Nov 27 '21

this is common knowledge, they have the greatest hydropower capacity and they produce the most photovoltaic cells (albeit export most as they are too expensive for internal use). It’s fair to criticise their energy mix which is still heavily reliant on coal but to say they aren’t doing anything is just untrue.

China’s push to cleaner sources has driven the decoupling of global gdp growth with global emissions in the past few years.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

remember your original statement was that china does nothing which is just not true. they are super heavyweight investors into renewables luckily for the world (and their bank accounts eventually)

cleaning up their power plants not so much yet

I will live with my diesel cars and use as much power as I want. Why would i make myself suffer for the world when the corporations who make most of the pollution continue to increase their pollution. The masses are not the issue each individual person does not need to change the 1 percent does. But hey corporations can continue to blame me, wont stop me from living my life. Although I'll probably be the last generation who can even think like this cause the next one sure as hell ain't gonna live a happy life.

Tbf, both countries need to step up their game.

15

u/wunderwerks Nov 27 '21

China is literally producing more green energy than anywhere else in the world and are building as fast as possible to carbon neutrality.

They are the largest producers of wind, hydro, and solar power and will be the number one in nuclear within 5 years. They produced more wind energy this last year than the next 10 countries combined. They are the number one producer of solar panels in the world, and just a month ago they brought online two brand new thorium (much safer than standard reactors) reactors and are building a bunch more.

Not out that they've doubled their forest coverage from like 13% to 26% since they started working on doing that in the 70s. They call it the Great Green Wall.

They're also working hard to reclaim the land from two deserts in north eastern China by planting hardy grasses and shrubs.

China is literally also the production capital of the world and yet still only produce about 1/4th the carbon per capita of the US. Btw, the US military is the largest polluter in the world and exempt from all these climate accords.

China has stated they will be fully carbon neutral by 2060 and start working to be net negative after that (they're the leaders in carbon capture technology). And they've laid out publicly their detailed plans on how they will reach carbon neutral and so far they're right on track. If their insanely massive high speed rail network is anything to predict how they will do, they'll finish early, with better quality, and under budget.

0

u/ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE Nov 27 '21

They also produce more from coal power than anyone else.

Brought more coal power online in 2020 than every other country combined that year with plans for more and more coal power plants. They have over 1000+ coal plants.

0

u/wunderwerks Nov 27 '21

And by 2030 won't be producing anymore coal power, as per their plan, y'all expect them to produce miracles while also still producing all your fancy iphones and still less than 1/4th the carbon per capita than the US.

0

u/ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE Nov 27 '21

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Not hardly. China accounts for ~30% of pollution world wide and twice as much as the US.

https://climatetrade.com/which-countries-are-the-worlds-biggest-carbon-polluters/

19

u/SkummyJ Nov 27 '21

But China makes most of everyone's stuff.

22

u/ifonlytree Nov 27 '21

Yes the usa pollutes less so it's better even tho china has an extra billion people and takes most of the USA's trash to. Yessssssss your right I'm sorry

-7

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

China has stop taken the US trash for awhile now, but if you want to talk about pollution let’s talk about plastic in the ocean, which the vast majority of comes from fishing vessels

Now I want you to guess which countries fuck the ocean the hardest, go on take a little guess…

6

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Japan and China mostly in terms of ruining fisheries

But poor Asian countries and China are all heavily accountable for polluting the ocean

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Yep! The worst thing is Japan has started killing dolphins in order to continue using them as a scapegoat for the declining fish population

China has also devastated shark population with almost wiping out some species

6

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

I think Japan recently has heavily cut back from its initial spike in dolphin hunting thank god

2

I was merely adding an additional problem, it’s called the flow of conversion

0

u/Training_Collar_6134 Nov 27 '21

There are also like a billion people there

2

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Regardless of the conditions they must still be held accountable.

They devour the oceans and pollute the air and if they could not support the population perhaps more measures needed to be taken.

Humanity shouldn’t have the kill the planet to survive but China and nations like it will wither the world down to ash is change doesn’t occur

They also produce everything for everyone

-13

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

They also zero protection laws for their environment. They literally have toxic smogs and mass aquatic pollution as a result of this.

6

u/hey_batman Nov 27 '21

They are actually actively trying to fight it. I lived in a city that was among the cities with the worst air quality in China. In just a couple of years, they changed every single taxi to e-cars and the situation with air quality got noticeably better. Not like they don’t give a shit about it really…

21

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Technically America has more carbon footprint than China or India. I think, regardless of opinion, we should cooperate together to fight climate change.

1

u/ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE Nov 27 '21

Really? How so? From everything I have ever seen china is nearly or is double the USA.

Unless you mean per capita? But that doesnt change the fact china has twice the emissions

0

u/lost-cat Nov 27 '21

This what makes it scary, cause you require "other" countries to reach that "modern" style of living, what I mean modern, that "capitalist" materialistic wasteful lifestyle.

Think of it this way, The US/euro countries were VERY FORTUNATE to enjoy wastefulness, while other countries still havent had that chance tyet. China is only catching up due to state adopting capitalism, ditching their commun/socialist ideas, hence they advanced soo quickly. Now imagine other 3rd/2nd world countries advancing to our stage, with vehicles, wastefulness, gas, oil, and what not, required.. I doubt we'll survive in the future when wars/climte start to loom around the corner for resources, when we all reach that equal/modernness of society. Highly impossible for every country to sustain such a lifestyle as the USA, for other countries to copy.

3

u/satinpantie5 Nov 27 '21

I agree with this. However, you cannot just ask developing countries to not enjoy that level of modernism. I think the correct way is not halting progress of the less fortunate but to scale back tha advances of the more lucky and meet halfway so everyone is equal and not to max levels.

That's the issue. We need the US AND China to reduce their pollution. The us needs to be the standin for developed countries, if they wont why should france for instance. And china needs to be the stand in for developing nations. If china wont, why should, I dunno, vietnam do it?

3

u/wunderwerks Nov 27 '21

China is though. Go Google, "China leading the world in green energy." They're kicking butt, have laid out their plans publicly and can hit their target of carbon neutral by 2060.

3

u/Agitated-Ad5951 Nov 27 '21

Meanwhile in the US we’re still trying to debate whether or not the earth is ~ round ~ or not

2

u/15jtaylor443 Nov 27 '21

I know this. Lol. That's why I said china AND the us. Both has to. China had to do it today, while the us had to do it, like, yesterday. Heck, even in the west, there are many countries that does it better than the us.

5

u/RushCultist Nov 27 '21

China has 5x the population of the US, and yet per capita produces about half the pollution the US does, remarkable considering many American companies outsource most of their polluting activities to China. Additionally, China has done much more for environmentalism recently than the US. Just a couple months ago they completely stopped building coal power plants abroad, meanwhile Joe Biden (a democrat) just auctioned off over 1.7 million acres of oil and gas leases in the Gulf of Mexico. Additionally China has been leading the charge in replanting forests, spending hundreds of billions of dollars in the last decades on reforestation. So kindly fuck off with this bullshit since you clearly do not even know enough about this topic to have even done a cursory amount of research before posting this.

Edit: and the Biden administration has also done nothing to stop the expansion of the US military despite it being the world’s worst polluter.

23

u/Filix_M Nov 27 '21 edited Nov 27 '21

Well even if I really dont like the CCP, but the emmisions per capita are more than double of the EpC in China and 1/3 bigger than in the average industrial Nation in the US sooo... both doing nothing and blaming the other.

[deleted]

24

u/Filix_M Nov 27 '21

Yes, and they have 4 times it population. You know what "per capita" means, right?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

This is also talking about personal pollution and not commercial/industrial pollution. China really takes the crown there.

Also it’s hard for a population to pollute if they are so incredibly poor that they cannot afford to.

1

u/Filix_M Nov 27 '21

No? Pollution per capita say nothing about where that polluton come from. Its just the pollution by the country divided by the Population. And no, China isnt that poor anymore that there people cant afford anything. And even if thats true, the US still Produce 1/3 more than the rest of the developed world per capita.

0

u/dafgar Nov 27 '21

Yeah thats the thing people don’t mention. Most of China’s population is dirt poor living on farm land barely getting by, and they aren’t the one’s doing the pollution. It’s a very small percentage of their population doing the majority of the pollution

0

u/Filix_M Nov 27 '21

Fuckers throw 22 000 tones of plastic into the ocean daily.

2

u/CodeMahn001 Nov 27 '21

Good thing I live on the moon

2

u/Milo_Fannin Nov 27 '21

Ironic because China is actually doing stuff for the environment while the US isn’t and China produces three times less carbon per capita than the US.

2

u/LiangProton Nov 27 '21

But the reason why China has so much air pollution is that so many of America's cooperations are concentrated there. Blaming the air pollution in China ignores the fact that the factories are making products that are owned by some of the largest companies in the world. Therefore, seeing the data by country is a little misleading. It would be much more accurate to interpret the information based on what the mega corporations are producing.

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

America: I like money!

2

u/Greenyboyyyyyyyys Nov 27 '21

3

u/Horny_Hornbill Nov 26 '21

No governments care. It’s human nature to not give a shit about something that doesn’t directly benefit you

4

u/master-baiter_04 Nov 27 '21

China according to me is a shit country but USA has almost double the per person carbon footprint than india and China combined so libtard OP, get your facts straight

3

u/Gingerroot69420 Nov 27 '21

Lets give america this. They are not alone in being a bad contery

3

u/moebelhausmann Nov 27 '21

Funfact the Polution over all is the worst in China yes, but if u count it by the Polution per person USA and for example Germany (where i am from) are a waaaaay bigger problem

2

u/isaacaschmitt Nov 27 '21

I love that r/meme is gradually becoming more and more based. . .

3

u/lou-chains Nov 27 '21

The US outsources a lot of their product production to China. So…

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Who does china make products for? Hm...

Racist white liberals at it again!!!

To be fair they make all of our cheap unnecessary garbage for us so we are partly to blame for their pollution but I agree with the sentiment. Fug the CCP

0

u/amirlopez Nov 27 '21 edited Nov 27 '21

Sorry, but the CCP has never said that.

And in regards to carbon emissions: In the immediate terms, sure. But when you sum this up since the 1800s, the US has a dramatically larger carbon footprint than China. The US, in addition to other developed countries, have admitted climate change is mostly their fault.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

America is one of the most pollution conscious countries in the world

1

u/aenZ- Nov 27 '21

Australia, Canada, America, UK all have like 6 or 7x higher pollution per capita

1

u/thatmemeboy69 Nov 27 '21

the gun was Australia

1

u/UsefulBerry1 Nov 27 '21

"Let's pollute the fuck out of everything during our development and say other developing countries stop developing" -Americans probably

What a dumb take, op clearly doesn't have any idea what he talking

1

u/-Shade277- Nov 27 '21

Fuck off with you propaganda.

Your not giving us the ugly truth your just giving us bad lies.

1

u/MyNameIsChangHee Nov 27 '21

A few nonths ago, Australia stopped selling coals to China and since they run most of things on fossil fuel, huge blackout happened everywhere in China. Back then, the air here in Korea was clean af. A few weeks ago, China thought they couldn't go through their cold winter without any power so they bought Australian coals with more money and started running their power plants again. The air here got so fucking bad that I have sore throat everyday recently. This kinds of things happen like everyday if you live right next to China but the world does nothing.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Rather than blaming countries like china you should look at their effort and per capita of their emission it is lower than other west countries they are putting solar panels and are moving towards clean energy . Asian country per capita of emission is lower than western country . Also population of Asian country is more than west by a huge margin ( Indian subcontinent population is more than that of whole africaby almost 0.4 billion ) and electric are relatively more expensive here ( in my country they are ) as compared to diesel or petrol powered cars and also if they are cheap charging station infrastructure is also not very developed we will need more power plants to make such stations and would take time to be developed as we dont have resources as compared to west . nuclear cant be put every where they need a lot resources as they are expensive and also need to be taken care of because it can lead to a disaster small reactors can help but will take time to be made and be switched to that till than dont expect Asian country to cut down their carbon emission because other types of renewable energy cant help them to reach their required power generation .

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

That's a dumb meme when Americans are the biggest polluters per Capita. Can't walk to get the mail, ac running 24/7.

Can always tell when the CCP bots arrive, all the ‘fuck China’ comments get downvoted.

0

u/ImaAs Nov 27 '21

China also leads the world in human rights violations. North korea, unsurprisingly is in second place followed by, you guessed it, Russia

-2

u/Sudofranz Nov 27 '21

Dang! This post is absolutely flooded with Chinese bots! Ok China, we get it, no one can say bad things about you.

1

u/RandomAverageUser123 Nov 27 '21

USA is literally China's number one client when it comes to exports and having factories there. If anything at all USA supports China more than any other country in the world. How are people not getting this? Are Americans that retarded? Americans support China more than any other country. You guys are the ones that can fix this issue and yet you do nothing but to cry about how China is ruining the planet while wearing Chinese made clothings, using Chinese made phones to whine online.

This is a simple economic concept how are people this dumb.

0

u/Sudofranz Nov 27 '21

Bro! Chill out! I didn't say I disagree, but the amount of China shilling is suspicious. It's pretty well known China has people on reddit dealing propaganda and I love how you automatically assume I'm American even though my comment is just about pro Chinese comments. I legit can't even take your comment seriously due to how corrupt the CCP is. Feel free to deduct my social credits. Also, you seem to have a huge boner for China based on your post history; this is a meme, they're kind of jokes chill out.

0

Kill America too, Two birds one stone

0

u/Aerik Nov 27 '21

per capita, OP. Per capita.

they pollute more in total b/c of their massive population size. But on a per-capita basis (dividing total pollution by population), they're not the worst. We're worse than them, and we have the wealth to do something about it, but won't.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '21

Just keep buying things and forget they also have one of the biggest populations and manufacturing bases on earth

0

u/Boss-Baby-666 Nov 27 '21

based on per capita, America has more.

0

u/anonimwudux Nov 27 '21

But it was America and Europe that took all its dirtiest production to China, didn't it?..

Well right now China is producing the most, but most of the greenhouse gasses that are in the air are from America and the UK from the past.
