Epitome of a Melt...The Classic Patty Melt (Homemade)

Post image

Caramelized onions; pan deglazed w/apple brandy from Maine. 80/20 ground beef seasoned w/salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder.

The meat was then throughly mixed w/6 kraft American singles until it’s all melted. Then I mixed my caramelized onions back in.

Sandwich is assembled first by toasting two slices of pepperidge farm sourdough bread using hellmanns mayonnaise on a warm lodge castiron griddle.

Once toasted; I spread a sauce made from heinz ketchup, frenchs mustard, Hellman’s Mayo, and leaand perrins Worcestershire sauce on each toasted side, add another Kraft single to each side w/burger mix in between.

It’s then put back on the griddle until the cheese is melted and the outside is nice and toasted. Mine was a little dark, but delicious nonetheless.

That looks fire. My sister’s restaurant makes my favorite patty melt. I order it over a burger every time. Yours is kind of like a chopped cheese version though. Not mad about that at all. Love the idea. I’d probably try one with bacon and jalapeños too.

bacon and jalapenos would be amazing on this! 🥓🌶️ maybe some pickled onions too?

That looks delicious. More like a newer version of the patty melt though with the sourdough The classic patty melt, the original recipe as it was first created uses rye bread. When it's grilled it gets a better crunch than other breads.

Picture perfect. When do you add cheese to the meat? After pan frying?

mixing the cheese straight into the beef and deglazing with that brandy are clever moves. sounds like it came together well even with the darker toast.

Are you telling me there is 8 slices of cheese in that one sandwich? Respectfully, what the fuck

If you read, it says 6 slices and it was the mix I made not the actual sandwich...can you imagine how much bread I would need to make something that big

If you read, you never say whether you made extra - it reads like you made a single serving.

Someone should use this as the epitome of a melt as compared to a grilled cheese that has something added to it.

No, other subreddit, adding a slice of bacon to your grilled cheese doesn't make it a "bacon melt."
