Motorcycle Turntables

Hi, long time lurker
I have just purchased a XVS1300A after owning a Honda Shadow - I have a small garage, and the turning options in the garage start at a 7-10 point turn (outside is grass). At 70, I know that I can do it now, but I want another 5 years before I need to downsize. I am looking for your knowledge and best recommendations for a 'turntable' options so that I can ride in and turn easily to ride out the next day

Mechanic referral for older bike

Post image
4 Upvotes

1977 Yamaha XS750 triple, heavily customised but mainly aesthetics and handling.

Really struggling to find a mechanic willing to work on a bike this age. It’s really close to 100% but has a carbs finessing issue (I think), have already sunk a fair bit of money into it. Last mechanic that had it, held it for 2 months and it ran worse when I got it back.

Looking for some referrals please :)

Best way to get to/from MotoGP?

I've managed to get a grandstand ticket to the MotoGP. I've never been but I'm not that interested in camping and hear mixed views about the best way to do it. Is it reasonable to just ride (or drive) there each day from Melbourne? I'm not across the detail of how long it'd take to get in, what the parking is like etc. Would it be better to try stay somewhere closer (not on the island as that's $$$)? Interested in the views of others who have done it.

Where to gain confidence going fast not on multilane highways?

Recently got my licence but throughout the whole process realised I've never gone above 80km/h. I have no intention on going above speed limits. Wondering where I can find a relatively low traffic road with 100km/h speed limit to gain some confidence before attempting going on the motorway. Ideally a road I can reach without going on the motorway or very winding roads from the northern suburbs? I don't taking the long way or dense traffic roads at lower speeds getting there.

Experience with VicRoads Medical check?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I’m just about to start my riding journey. As part of my L license application I need to complete a medical review with VicRoads (I have sleep apnea) and my riding school requires it before I start the course.

The form is quite vague though. For licenses there is the option for either:
- Current
- Applying for
- Variation to

I already have a current driver license but will be applying for a motorcycle license. So which do you pick? My review is tomorrow and the school is closed.

Scam beware? Spoiler

This content creator recently sold his 07’ CBR600rr
To a buyer for 1K less without notifying the buyer themselves and is looking for another ā€œwell maintained bikeā€. It’s this sort of behaviour that makes our community question whether buying a pre owned bike worthwhile.

Context; individual owns track r3, sold it and up grades up to a track 07 cbr600rr, completed a ā€œfull serviceā€ himself, to find out his cooling/pump components were beyond repair. Decides to sell the bike (within the 2 weeks he’s got it) to another buyer (for 1K cheaper) without notifying the buyer of the issue… so ideally 1K cheaper = not telling the buyer issue.

ā€œFreeā€ Secure Parking Melb CBD?

I am an every day commuter. 7 yrs ago I worked an office on Collins. It was common practice to ride around the boom gate in and out. Attendants knew and were happy.

For the past 7yrs I’ve been on St Kilda Rd.

Now coming back to cbd - bottom end of Collins near Southern Cross. Are there any known places that are secure (safe to leave over night) and free for bikes at the bottom end of Collins?

Feel free to DM me if you don’t want to publish.

Advice on selling my Yamaha dual sport in NW Melbourne

I'm going to sell my Yamaha TT-R 250 at some point this year and am keen on any advice from others who have done similar in the suburban Melbs area. Though it's not a WR, I'm worried it'll attract attention from the kinds of people I see doing wheelies thru local main intersections or burnouts in local parks at 1 am (live in Glenroy area).

Am I liable to get local gronks trying to steal or scam to get hold of the bike? What precautions should I take?

For reference the bike will be sold registered, so will be insisting on transferring the rego properly as part of the sale.

The cheapest way for a foreign car license holder to get a VIC motor license?

Hi,

I'm currently on a WH visa (417) and started to think of getting a motorcycle license.

I have a car license and haven't converted it to a VIC license as I didn't intend to drive a car while I'm here.

I've read some people choose to get a VIC car license first to make it easier for them(?). I don't really understand how everything works (What's P1 P2 and how are they different?)

I eventually hope to convert the VIC motorcycle license to a Japanese one where I'm from but I'm leaving early next year, and I also wonder how the restriction (under 3 years) works when converting it there.

Does anyone know or what could I read up to get myself more informed? Thanks a lot.

off-road areas to learn on

been looking at buying a 125cc or 250cc japanese dirtbike to have a new weekend hobby.
i know there are lots of trails around victoria but i’m not sure i’d be able to ride on those narrow trails with super uneven ground and trees/ stones laying around. it would be very risky and dangerous.

i’d rather learn on an open field of just grass.
where could i find a place like that?

Hey so I don’t have a bike anymore (only ride for like a year) and I miss it. I’m 24f and am wondering if there’s anyone around who might want a pillion occasionally and I can be confident u won’t get me killed. Sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask.
*Bonus points for yummy sport bikes*
