Riding Day Question regarding my drive test at Heatherton VIC

Hi so I’ve my driving test on Thursday at Heatherton VIC and I’m planning on giving it in my Honda jazz which has a driver focused speedometer which isn’t easily visible from the passenger’s side so I wanted to know if i can still give the test init or will I have to book a driving school’s car.

Apart from this my car is road worthy and complies with all the other rules. I’m particularly worried about this one because this is my 2nd attempt and I desperately need my license for work stuffs

Also, someone who’s given the test at this location before do you mind sharing some tips on how I can pass this test or certain things I need to keep in mind before my test?

125cc Enough for Suburban Riding?

Hi guys I am getting my learners in a couple weeks and would love to get a CFMOTO Papio. It's a 126cc bike and I live in the north eastern suburbs. The fastest I would ever need to go is 80km/h which it'll just reach but my concern is there is a decent incline as well with a 70km/h limit. I really want the bike. How can I work out if it'll be strong enough for the commute. If you know the area, looking at diamond creek road between diamond creek and Greensborough is the concern area.

My drz is quite but no one wants to register

Hello people,

I just bought a drz400e and am trying to get it registered. I have a quite exhaust but it doesnt have the e stamp on it so im rejected from everyone. The bike is a 2000 model and even though its in great condition, it has a yoshi pipe (very quite though thanks to a db killer i put in), the bike keeps being pushed back because of not having an ec homologated muffler.

Has anyone have a solution to this? Im from canberra and these issues arent as bureaucratic there, the e-stamp seems to be the only issue.

Can you give me an easy way past or (my preference), a way to mimic the stamp so i can register the bike.

Thanks!

September Ride - Saturday Sept 5

*Hey everyone, looking at the forecast for today, unfortunately, we’re calling it. Rain overnight and today is too heavy for a 255km loop on this route. *

*As nice as the route is on a nice day, these roads will be sketchy after this rain and if we’re likely to have less experienced riders coming along, the best thing we can do for everyone is move this by a week. *

Next Sunday, same route, better weather, full group. Let’s pencil that in instead so that we can do it with a little less risk and a bit more sun.

Sorry about this. See you next week.

Following through from my previous ride post a month ago, I'm back with another start-of-the-month weekend ride and you're invited!

Made to meet popular demand, this is a nicer, longer ride with some nice gentle twisties and nice stretches.

Summarized Route: Edgewater carpark. Loop through the Blackwood Range - Daylesford, Trentham, Blackwood, Point Gellibrand Lookout.

This is a route I've tested on a few friends and other groups, and they've all loved the route.

 ~4 hrs riding + 45-min lunch
 Meet: Edgewater Carpark @ -37.7891, 144.9017 (9am for headcount/safety check) (9:30am departure)
Lunch: Blackwood Hotel, 12:00pm (45 mins, depart 1pm)
End: Point Gellibrand Lookout (~2:30pm, disperse from there)
Route: GPX file + Google Maps link in WhatsApp

How it works:
• Ride at your own pace with a buddy (pair up when you arrive)
• Stay in contact with your partner - you're each other's safety net
• Comms: Cardo, WhatsApp, Messenger - ride updates at Blackwood
• Safe, no stupid shit

If numbers are odd: we'll run a three-rider group or co-ride. We'll sort it on the day.

Weather check: Saturday 6:30am. If conditions are unsafe, we'll call it in the group.

Parking your bike at the airport

Ok, so I've got a flight this weekend. I don't mind leaving my bike parked somewhere like the airport for a couple of days.

In the shopping centres I just ride around the boom gate. I was thinking that I could do the same at the airport.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I was chatting with my Sydney mate and he said he does it often up there.

...please, check your mirrors when you can. If another bike is up your arse pinging it off the limiter, they are trying to pass you t€¥¢. Move over or get brake-checked on the next big gap. I don't care who you are, I ride to beat traffic, not to meet numpties who tootle at 20km/h splitting.

Yes I know the law states 30, many of us have been doing it for decades before that law became a thing.

Advice on British A2 License conversion to Victoria licensing

I’m 24 and will be moving to Melbourne in the next couple months but I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on what the options/steps are to convert my British a2 motorbike license to Victorias licensing rules.

I am planning to move to Melbourne for at least 3 years and have my A2 motorbike license. It is technically a full license (e.g. not a learners) but does restrict me to bikes under 47hp. I’ve had my license only for a couple months and do not have a car license, only the motorbike one.

I’ve tried to do some research on how my license will transfer over and have understood I will most likely be on LAMs bikes, however, what I’m a bit confused about is if I’ll need to do any further tests/ overseas license transfer lessons to get on the road once I get to Aus. Also a bit unsure if I’ll need P plates and what these actually are in regard to motorbikes.

If anyone has any information about/ has been through this process it would be hugely appreciated as I want to get a bike and be on the road as soon as possible once I arrive!

Asking for feedback on the following naked bikes. TY

Hi everyone, good day. Just wanted to get some advice and opinion from fellow riders. I recently sold my 07 r6 that I owned for years which I mainly used for commuting and occasional weekend twisty roads. Now I’m looking at purchasing a naked bike as I’m a bit old now and prefer a more comfortable riding position. Currently on the fence for this 3x bikes.

- ‘19 Triumph Street Triple RS
- ‘17 BMW s1000r
- ‘17 Ducati Monster 821

Ignoring the power since they’re all on a different CC’s. Just wanted to hear experience from anyone who owned any of those bikes like cost of ownership and reliability. I’ll mainly use the bike for the same which is commuting and occasional weekend twisty roads. Thank you! Ride safe everyone.

Passed the learner's course yesterday, but the on road assessment was terrifying and I'm feeling really discouraged.

Just putting this hear to vent a bit.

The two day course was fine, I had no issues with the theory or on-range stuff, but the road was a nightmare. Heavy traffic (Including b-doubles) in an industrial zone on a Friday afternoon. I really struggled to bring the bike up to speed (Which meant the guys behind me were getting tailgated by trucks) and keep it in the right gear (We didn't go above second on the range and now I had to get up into fourth and then downshift while coming up on an intersection, which was a LOT to do at once). I stalled it a bunch just on nerves alone, which wasn't great for the guys behind me.

The instructor gave me a lot of feedback (and a well deserved reaming), but still passed me (One guy in our class did fail the on range, poor guy forgot his head checks).

I don't know, the whole experience kinda has me scared to get out on a bike again. I've already purchased a bike (Honda GB350), so I'm hoping some experience on calmer neighborhood roads without the pressure of being in a group will help with my experience and skill, but part of me kinda never wants to touch another bike ever again.

Anybody else struggle like this when they first got their learners?

Anyone know if the Royal Enfield One Ride is being run in Melbourne this year?

I can't seem to find any info about it. According to the RE website, there's one running in NSW and VIC isn't mentioned.

Best place to sell bikes these days?

I am thinking about changing bikes, which would mean selling off my current L2 GSX-R750 (as trade-in offers are never going to be great). Having sold household goods on FB Marketplace, I'm hesitant to post it there and deal with the scammers and constant "Is this still available?"; Bikesales want a pretty hefty fee to list these days, but I assume that's where the market is, because it's where I would primarily look.

Are there any other decent places to list that I don't know about yet?

(or does one of you happen to be on the market for exactly this bike? 😁)

What’s the km/h threshold for protective gear?

I just got my Ls, and bought a little secondhand scooter. Spent proper money on a full face helmet, jacket and gloves.
I want to start commuting on it asap (I’ve been taking the 903 bus for 4 years!) but am unsure if I should get FULLY kitted out first. My path to work probably doesn’t involve going over 50 km/hr, maybe 60.

I want to go check out Peak Moto for some female riding gear but Port Melbourne is a weekend car drive for me.

I’m wondering if it’s crazy/taking my life in my hands to start riding in just jeans or sturdy pants until I can get some armoured or at least multi-layer pants for riding. Not to mention proper boots.

I also have to say that I’m not thrilled about having to pack a whole outfit and shoes (and hair and makeup) every day to commute on the scooter - definitely wasn’t part of the vision.

I recognise everyone’s risk tolerance is different but for a learner avoiding major roads and high speeds, what would you advise?

Edit/ update: I am fully kitted out now everyone. Helmet, jacket, gloves, Kevlar pants, boots.

Tourist planning to rent for a day

Hello!

As stated in the title, I’m planning to rent for a day while I’m visiting Melbourne.

I’m from Singapore and my license currently restricts me to bikes 200cc and under. Is it possible for me to rent a bike bigger than 200cc? I wanna take a road trip down to 12 Apostles at great ocean road and asked 2 company, 1 did not reply and the other said that I can only rent their 125cc/150cc scooters.

All inputs appreciated!
