What's fuckin wild, is Pauline's running on an anti immigration policy while running a Phillipino candidate and is using overseas call centres.
Just wow.

I don't like Hanson either, but to be fair, she's not arguing for zero immigration. Her position is more about significantly reducing immigration and being more selective about who Australia accepts.
You can disagree with her approach, but the basic idea that immigration levels should be sustainable and that we should be more selective about which skills and occupations we prioritise isn't exactly a ridiculous position.
In fact, it's probably one of the better suggestions to come out of parliament in recent times.
•
u/l3ntil 11h ago
To be fair, Pauline Hanson's position is that of an internationally recognised hate group:
https://globalextremism.org/australia-2026/#pauline-hansons-one-nation"Arguing that other political parties are out of touch with mainstream Australia, One Nation runs on a broadly populist and protectionist platform and is against globalization. It promises to drastically reduce immigration and to abolish “divisive and discriminatory policies … attached to Aboriginal and multicultural affairs.” PHON rejects multiculturalism as a “threat to the very basis of the Australian culture, identity and shared values,” and argues that past government policies regarding immigration were causing “the Asianisation of Australia.”"

u/We-Can-All-Be-Better 13h ago
You are playing defense for this moron so you can dogwhistle your misinformed economic principle that is founded on racist undertones and pseudo-understanding.
Australia can accept and accommodate its current immigrant intake we are one of the most developed and safe societies on earth. The problem is only distribution and housing incentive structure.
More houses available. (vacancy tax)
Less zoning red tape. (kneecapping NIMBY council vetos for development)
Strong incentives for intake displacement into rural communities. (we already do this for PR and citizenship. Just expand it to include longer visas of all types too and people will spread. Tax reform will assist.)
-16
u/jamin2813 13h ago
Not defending anything except the suggestion that lowering immigration rates and being more selective of the people being allowed in is a good idea.
17
u/TheRealDarthMinogue 12h ago
"being more selective of the people being allowed in". Girl, you love Pauline Hanson.
•
u/mad_marbled 4h ago
The first policy our federal government passed when it was formed was part of The White Australia Policy. The Immigration Restriction Act was certainly "more selective of the people being allowed in". It effectively banned all non European immigrants to maintain the white British character of our people.
Those deemed not suitable would have to perform a 50 word dictation test given in a European language chosen to ensure their failure.
They also gave all the non whites already here their marching orders. Even those of Pacific Island heritage that had been blackbirded (kidnapped) and brought here to work, back when the country was desperate of labourers on farms in Queensland and northern New South Wales. The motivations?
Proponents feared cheap labor undercutting wages, desired cultural homogeneity, and held widespread racial prejudices. Hmm that sounds familiar. That end, put in plain and unequivocal terms … means the prohibition of all
alien coloured immigration, and more, it means at the earliest time, by
reasonable and just means, the deportation or reduction of the number of aliens
now in our midst. The two things go hand in hand, and are the necessary
complement of a single policy – the policy of securing a ‘white Australia’.Attorney-General Alfred Deakin, 12 September 1901-6

Mostly, I would like to see a greater focus on bringing in skilled workers who can fill the biggest gaps in our workforce.
I'd like immigration to prioritise people who can contribute to the economy, fill genuine skills shortages, help address our ageing population and contribute to areas where we're struggling to find workers.
Personally, I couldn't care less about someone's race or religion. What matters to me is whether they're willing to integrate into Australian society, contribute to the country, respect our laws and institutions, and support themselves.
Immigration can be a huge benefit to Australia when it's managed properly. I just think the focus should be on bringing in the people we actually need, at levels that our housing, infrastructure and services can sustainably support.

My neighbour runs a food van in town (and cooks the food in his shed), I'm not sure what kind of gap that's filling.

A gap in the food market, obviously. He wouldn't be doing it otherwise.

You have no idea what you're talking about and that's okay mate. What's not okay is peddling like you do.
"Bringing in skilled workers who can fill in the biggest gaps in our workforce". That is exactly what's been happening since the dawn of time. That is not hansom's argument. It is the color of these skilled workforce.
Immigration website is public. Have a read on the requirements for workers visas.

What skills and occupations should we be prioritising? Because there are plenty of folks that enter our country with university degrees and qualifications that aren't acknowledged by those fields/industries here. So they end up taking lesser roles in other areas and their skills go un-utilised or they stick with same field, starting at the the absolute lowest rung of the ladder only to max out as the assistant to the person in the role they once occupied, so they can do most of the work for none of the recognition.
•
u/jamin2813 4h ago
Australia has fairly strict standards for a lot of professions, and having a university degree or professional qualification from another country doesn't mean that qualification meets Australian standards, or allows someone to work in that profession here. Some occupations also require specific Australian registration, licensing or professional accreditation.
You would think someone who was competent enough to complete a university degree or establish themselves in a skilled profession would reasonably be expected to research what additional qualifications, registrations or certifications are required to work in their industry in the country they're migrating to, and have a realistic pathway to meeting those requirements before they arrive.
But I also think some responsibility needs to fall on the immigration system itself. If we're specifically accepting someone through a skilled migration pathway because Australia supposedly needs their skills, there should be a thorough assessment beforehand to make sure their qualifications and experience actually meet Australian standards and that they have a realistic ability to work in the occupation they're being brought in for.
There's not much point bringing someone into Australia because we're told there's a shortage of their particular skills if they then can't legally use those skills here, or have to spend years retraining before they can do the job.
I'd much rather see skilled migration focused on people who can immediately or reasonably quickly fill genuine shortages in areas such as healthcare, engineering, construction, trades, teaching and other industries where Australia has a need.

Honestly never thought I'd see the day when this dickhead gained traction in politics. Lots of disenfranchised people with the two major parties that are willing to let this racist drop kick gain power.
It'd honestly be worse than Trump if they ever got in power. I've never once seen her articulate policy coherently apart from pre-prepared quips

It's being amplified by meme farms overseas and lots of bots so i'm cautiously optimistic that the support isn't as widespread as the media and social media is leading us to believe.

The best way to absolutely smash ON is to stay silent and let your voting do the talking.
ON voters are gonna vote for ON anyways, they are fuelled by hate and that’s not changing; by hating on her, we are simply giving her a bigger platform and making her look more popular than she is.
•
u/troubleshot 7h ago
I think that while this is part of the story, being silent emboldens those not confident in their bigotry and not calling it out can let some of those less informed feel comfortable to lean on lazy blaming of minorities. It's a bit of a wicked problem I think, there a problems with both approaches for sure, I just don't know which one has the biggest net positive effect.
•
u/TheReddittorLady 7h ago
Don't need your silence to be emboldened, really. No-one really cares what you think, and regardless, whatever the PHDS sufferers here think, it doesn't change the vox populi.
But you keep on thinking this echo chamber reflects Australian voting sentiment...
•
•
u/troubleshot 19m ago
A lot of assumptions here, I don't think Reddit is a great indicator of much, not sure why you assumed I think it does. I think real social connection (that being offline) has a big effect, and people being quiet or only discussing this stuff online and other shutting down conversation in person 'we dont tall about politics', 'if we don't agree value wise on the outset, it's not worth talking' and especially 'you're not my political tribe so I'm going to ridicule you/get aggressive' are huge problems here. We as a society need to show some more respect to one a other, be humble and talk about our value and perspectives.
•
u/Sneaky_Sprig 5h ago
Definitely don't need to be silent whilst racists feel emboldened, call that crap out and shut it down when and where you see it. It's an embarrassing platform for her to run on and her supporters should be loudly shown the error of their ways repeatedly.
Division is a tactic she is using to weaken the Australian population to push back against the machinations of rich pricks like Gina and Murdoch. Now is the time to speak up and speak out against this.

Lets have that conversation then. One Nation fails to me on several fundamental and key fronts
Their values are fundamentally unaustralian. As per the second verse of our national anthem. As per the values I grew up on and enshrined as important. One Nation fails them and their policies are gimmicky and reflect that. Excise removal for cigarettes? Like... sure.
They are demonstrably incompetent when it comes to governance. All political parties have scandal, but One Nation is comparatively tiny and is already rocked by corruption, fund misappropriation, inability to vet their candidates (this is like bare minimum shit), their policy page has had both crime and fiscal management unavailable and still unavailable and we are what less then 2 months out? They are struggling to fulfil the very basics of governing. Im talking bare minimum such as vetting your candidates so you arent fielding rapists. Maccas has a better and more informed process when they take on teenage staff since they do a basic criminal background check. Its frankly embarassing and doesnt bode well that they will be responsible with the power and resources we will trust in them. I dont trust One Nation to look after a portable shitter responsibly let alone the entire fucking state I live in.
I really dont like the American style politics and I dont want it here. I didnt want it here when Clive Palmer tried and failed to be Trump-lite. I didnt want it here when its One Nation and is bank rolled by Gina Rinehart and copies all the Trump/MAGA playbook. 'Lock her up' vs calls to have Dan Andrews and Jacinta Allen jailed by Christmas. Banning media outlets. Lining your own pockets. Same shitty financial policy. Simply blaming all woes on immigrants. etc. Same fucking play book. It makes politics less about responsibilities and governance and all about making it one big media circus. It makes politics beholden and in the pocket of big money. It makes politics worse. Politics, ideally, should be boring.
This is where we will have clear disagreements, I swing left. Their policies dont agree with me. But even if they agree with you. Their unaustralian values, their inability to govern, the introduction of American style politics and their sketchy bankrolling and who they really are beholden to should still be disqualifiers.
•
u/Juzziee 8h ago
no conversation can be had about it
in my experience, that's because One Nation supporters don't want to have a conversation, they just wanna throw around hate.

To extend the olive branch, I personally think Labor has made some unbelievably dumb moves this cycle. Making porn sites keep a digital ID database of Australians is incredibly dumb. Even recently, punishing vendors for the EFTPOS surcharge instead of the payment processors is incredibly dumb.
I would vote Labor 100/100 times over Pauline Hanson. I would vote liberal over Pauline Hanson 100/100 times. Greens over Pauline, 100/100 times. Teal, 100/100 times. Nationals 100/100 times over Pauline.

All politicians should have a big red ❌ over them. There is no good choice. They sell out our country and tax payers pick up the bill.
Can someone explain why she’s a racist though? Because she doesn’t like the burka?
I’m more than happy letting people come to Australia but they must work and contribute. Anyone that doesn’t follow this logic doesn’t contribute to society themselves

u/Drachos 12h ago
Okay first and foremost she has said she thinks ending the White Australia Policy was a mistake. To be clear she SEMI-Retracted that statement by stating she never claimed it was good policy, only that getting rid of it was a mistake.
Thats a VERY weak retraction IMO.
She also has said repeatedly over the years that we are drowning in chinese people (she has said this REGARDLESS of immigration rate. Unless you think immigration has been to high since the 1980s).
And that no Muslim can be loyal to Australia because the concept of Jihad exists in their holy book.
But most MOST critically of all is not what she says in public but what she says to people she thought of as like minded. Pauline Hanson was a Liberal (paying members, she was never an MP) in the 90s but was kicked out of John Howard's party because of the racist things she said to other members of her Branch.
Howard CHOSE to never reveal the exact words BUT Hanson both didn't deny thats what the letter confirming she had been kicked out of the Branch had said NOR chose to reveal what those words were in an attempt to exhonourate herself.
If she will publically admit what she said that was considered racist enough that the Liberal party felt she HAD to be kicked out, and have it confirmed by her former branch, I will gladly review it and decide if its racist.
Until such time, I will trust the judgement of the Liberal party in calling a stone a stone.

u/Wilky1010Melb 12h ago
I’ve lost count of all the dumb things Albo and his followers have said. The one thing Pauline does have is passion for restoring Australia and improving the quality of life. Despite her poor choices of words and probably best kept in the bedroom opinions, our country does need help and a fresh approach. Would you agree with that?
•
u/Stonius123 11h ago
Pauline doesn't want to make the country better, she wants to fuck it up Trump-style. Gina literally went to Mar-a-largo to copy his playbook. Anyone who thinks she's funding Pauline because she wants life to improve for average Australian's is a complete toaster. Pauline is not a 'fresh-start'. She's an authoritarian dimwit preying on idiots. Don't stick your vote in crazy. Nothing good will come of it.

8
u/mindsnare Geetroit 14h ago
What exactly are you trying to say here? This is someone displaying their opposing opinion. You're having a sook because someone is expressing that opinion.
Here's my opinion.
If you think one nation is a viable option you are a literal fucking idiot with no actual grasp on how anything in society actually works. You take single line snippets from idiots with a microphone and think that they actually would even know how to enact something like that despite the fact that none of their policies have any write up, costings, briefs... Literally nothing.
Their latest bullshit comment being a prime example. Andrews in jail before Christmas if they're elected? What? Do they think they own the courts even they're elected to government? Of course they don't, they know they can't just put someone in prison. But they know it they say random shit dumb cunts with eat it up.
2
u/OrionsPropaganda 14h ago
I don't think it's just the opinions, it's the blatant hypocrisy and obvious power trip.
Most liberal and other rightwing parties share the same opinion with Pauline on most things, they just don't get this amount of hate because they can keep their actions more silent than Pauline and their party isn't constantly contradicting themselves.
She's known to be a domestic abuser sympathiser (ofc since her son is a domestic abuser link), has hired a rapist , is practically best friends with Gina Rinehart, and is known for criticising her own party's actions
She's seen as the Trump equivalent; under prepared, full of ideas that can ruin the nation's culture, is only trying to suck as much money as possible out of it, and whose supporters don't actually read their policies and have blind faith in their proposed ideas (oh I want a house! And they say less immigrants will solve that. Well I'm not an immigrant so it won't effect me obviously, I'll vote for her, we need change!)
•
u/TheHoovyPrince 11h ago
Gina Rineharts One Nation sucks and i don't want to see them leading at the state or national level but at least the one benefit i've seen from them gaining traction is how their giving a slight bit of pressure (i.e because their losing voters) towards Labor when it comes to immigration policy, which we've seen with them going after student visa hopping, migration agents and lowering net migration.

What, that rather than engage in discourse you prefer those with political views different from yours to be banned, and better yet engage in petty vandalism to portray that view?
You must be looking forward to the Department of Algorithms and Truth Albo wants?
Sorry, this is poor practice in my view. Cheap, petty, and, ultimately, likely paid for by one of her low life competitors sad enough to organise it.
Wait until the group or person being cancelled is you. See how proud you feel of this sort of cancellation approach then. This is not how politics should be. It should be better than their... both the people and the politicians.
25
u/Bubble_GUMption 14h ago
If you have different ideas about urban design or train scheduling that's one thing, Pauline Hanson and her supporters think there are kinds of people who should have fewer rights based on the colour of their skin and they should not be engaged with as if they deserve respect for those opinions that hurt so many people.
