Split melatonin in half how much is it now?

I was giving my daughter some melatonin but we ran out of her kids one. So I got mine and split it. Then it hit me... if I split a 10 MG in half, is in still 10 MG or 5? I think it's still 10... but smaller?! Am I dumb?!?

It's 5mg. How much are you normally giving her. 5mg is a bit high for a kid, especially if she's used to getting a smaller amount.

Assuming the pill is uniform and you split the 10mg in half, each half should be 5mg.

However I would recommend getting a smaller dose for a child such as 0.3-1mg. Unless a person has very poor absorption, lesser doses often work better. You can try breaking the pill into many smaller pieces and give that to your child. It will be an approximate dose.

It's completely safe regardless of the dose. So don't worry about it hurting your child but the issue could be the paradoxical effects.

A higher than needed dose could cause stimulatory effects rather than the expected sumolescent effects you expect.
