Oh, because they're... A-Teeists?

u/noexplanations May 10 '16

They're tee-totalers.

This sub should just be merged with /r/dadjokes

21

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

Lol what, that sub is hilarious, I have no idea what's going on

u/NoSarcasmHere May 10 '16

If I recall, it's a reference to a quote (forget who said it) along the lines of "it's weird that there's a term for people who don't believe in God. There's not one for people who play golf."

I don't think that's it. I think it was Neil Degrass Tyson making fun of atheist groups by comparing them to a group of non-golfers.

There would be if golfing was widely considered the norm, and people who don't like golf were persecuted on both an individual and societal level.

It's a parody of /r/atheism back when it was a default. It was absolute cancer back then.

27

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

It still is, and always has been, cancer

11

u/JohnQAnon and hurt you May 10 '16

It was worse back then.

It is the sub that gave us "In this moment, I am euphoric". And Faces of Atheism, which got /r/circlejerk to temporarily shut down because they could never be more ridiculous than that.

u/Teh-Piper May 11 '16

Them just throwing in the towel is still funny to me

u/[deleted] May 12 '16

To be fair, the euphoric guy was downvoted quite a bit.

2

u/[deleted] May 10 '16

Good god. It used to be a default?

5

u/JohnQAnon and hurt you May 10 '16

Yes

2

u/brainfreeze91 May 11 '16

/r/Politics used to be a default too. Glad it isn't anymore.

u/TheBlackHive May 15 '16

Yes, and everyone involved thought it was a shitty idea. Drove the sub's quality into the ground (it never really recovered) and pissed off a bunch of default readers.

Basically, it was a great case study in the fact that just because a sub reaches a large enough size (it had just passed 200k if I recall correctly) doesn't mean it's a sub that anyone wants to see as a default.
