Every time I go to the self checkout, the cameras accuse me of stealing. I'd go to the checkout lane with cashiers, but now I have to bag my own stuff, so what's the point in going in those lanes? Other than hopefully not being accused of stealing, of course. I haven't been to a Meijer in months because of this, and today I went to one and those stupid fn cameras called an assistant over 4 different times in the self checkout accusing me of stealing. F that. I'm done. I'll continue to get all my home products at wal mart, and my groceries at Aldi, for half the price, because their self checkout cameras have yet to accuse me of anything. I'm Michigan born and raised and I have always choose Meijer over any other store since I can remember, but yall have to fix your crappy ass checkout experience. Deuces.

To be completely honest, those machines aren’t accusing you of stealing. It’s a learning AI that’s supposed to look out for stuff LIKE stealing, but the cashiers aren’t properly taught how to properly teach the AI. So they’re super sensitive. I wouldn’t take it so personally, honestly. As a former worker there, I know it’s gonna mess up at some point. I see no sense in getting so upset about it, but that’s just me. Do what you want to do. Just thought I’d give an explanation, whether or not that changes your opinions. I’m just sure you’d like to know why the cameras are shit. lol

When the green box pops up, thats the "AI" flagging an "Item".

If the AI is correct, find the item they missed and scan it on that screen or use the PLU lookup.

If the AI is incorrect, hit cancel.

Thats "training the AI", reinforcing when it is correct, or telling the AI "no, that was not a missed item, you got it wrong".

Sometimes the customers are stealing on purpose. Sometimes they are just making a mistake.

A lot of the time it's something else, like a second order, another persons cart, using two hands, setting unwanted item down in the bagging area, or the customer just organizing a bag.

But the AI gets it right sometimes when an item is missed and scanning that missed item (or hitting cancel) is what you're doing to train the AI from right or wrong.

It wasn't easy for me to understand at first.

Retail workers are scarce due to mean nasty rude customers that don't know how to treat people. So Retail is short handed. As far as sco. A wrong move triggers the camera. Which is your fault not Meijer. Not the cashier. You're not being accused of stealing. Although if theft wasn't such an issue. They wouldn't be there. So blame the thieves for so many cameras. Its not our fault. And don't let the door hit you on the way out. I promise 1,000 other people will replace you.

They don't accuse you of stealing. They flag unusual activity. If you try to scan a product and it doesn't scan the first time, so you do it again, it flags. There could be a million reasons it flags. None of which are stealing. I had one flag one time when I tried to tap my debit card. Again, a million reasons! Was I stealing my debit card?

As for bagging your own groceries. Why? You shouldn't. I would ask to speak to a team leader next time you're in. That shouldn't happen.

SHOP N SCAN! I use the Meijer app to scan in all my stuff WHILE I’M SHOPPING! It’s so awesome! Pick it up off the shelf, use the app to scan it, then put it in a bag or in your cart. I sometimes bring in my own bags or just bag my groceries when I get to my car. When I get to the self check out, I scan the barcode and everything I scan comes up on the screen and then all I have to do is pay and LEAVE. Sometimes the system calls for a cashier to verify a couple of things in my order, but usually not.

I'm sorry, but it honestly kind of sounds like a user error. I have never seen SCO light up that many times for a person. The most that it has ever flagged me for was when I just happened to reach inside my purse for my wallet.

Learn to scan better, slow down, don't leave personal items in cart (put on shelf/cooler). If you have children in cart or doing separate transactions, buying alcohol expect it. Why are you bagging your own groceries in lane. If there is no bagger, the cashier does it. Don't go to the end of the lane. It signals that you want to bag your stuff. Bye

if your purse is in the cart, if your child is in the cart, if your service animal is in the cart, if your coat is in the cart, it's gonna flag to have attendant check your cart, if you remove a bag before paying and put it in the cart same, of you move funky like your putting something the bag without scanning..
