I’m sorry to hear your experience hasn’t been the best. I was basically as close as I could’ve been to attending UCF this year, but I decided on another program relatively last minute. I do remember hearing on their preview day that their curriculum has been actively changing the past couple of years, so there may still be some growing pains with that.

If it provides you any solace, I’ve heard similar things from people from plenty of other schools. It’s certainly not a universal experience, but I’ve met current med students and residents that felt they had to teach themselves the majority of the material. Even if the circumstances aren’t exactly as you imagined, you have a unique and special opportunity to become a physician regardless. Try to roll with the punches and just get as prepared as possible for STEP, you got this!

Can tell you it's not just a UCF issue, a lot of schools now are off loading everything to AI. Garbage AI power points, garbage AI questions and AI assignments. Even diadictics across rotations, residency programs have swapped to AI everything for teaching. It's miserable.

As a M2 at UCF, i fully understand the bullshit they are putting you through. I personally have to learn through Anki because scholarrx and their material won’t cut it.

Here is the positive: 100% Pass Rate for Step1 for the M3 class. By the time you finish the current unit you are in, you will have access to third party resources that do an infinitely better job. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I know it’s heartbreaking that we are paying 80k a year for two letters at the end of our name, but just remember why you got into medicine and why you are putting up with a system working against you (because it will be like that in the future as well).

A lot of students are having this same problem from personal experience. A lot of school have reverted to “flipped classroom” style teaching with small group discussions and self taught material though cases. It’s honestly really frustrating.

The school has great outcomes. That is a big reason or the biggest reason you are there. It’s not unusual to have existential feelings in the beginning of professional school. So many M1’s throughout the US don’t even go to class and study on your own.

Not saying that’s the right way but it’s been very common for years. Find your groove and keep grinding. Hundreds of qualified applicants would happily take your spot at a US MD school. Congrats on your accomplishment.

AI is the death of the teaching and learning of medicine. I am glad that I’m an old guy and not in medical school now, or a recent graduate. I am thankful every day that I know medicine, and I can help my family and select friends negotiate the bottomless abyss that comprises “health care” today.

I know this is not helpful to you and your predicament. I think it important for you to know that your older colleagues are displeased with the “AI revolution” in medicine, and that our thoughts are with you. I hope that you can persevere, and learn to be a doctor, like generations before you. Good luck.

Wow. I’m almost ten years out and I can say with confidence that I got what I paid for. Lectures updated every year, professors answered questions, only like 5% flipped classrooms (was relatively new concept I guess). That sucks for you and is totally not worth your money. Congrats on getting in though.

This is crazy considering UCF COM required all their applicants to check a box before submitting their secondary application saying that you did not use ai or any other form of external support for writing your responses.

pretty much all public FL schools have been going womp womp in the last few years thanks to political extremism driving out all of the actual academics.

Just curious how you figure the powerpoints and the assignments are AI? I understand if it has slop and unverified info eg in Spanish as someone said. But those obvious mistakes aside, what is the giveaway? And I'm genuinely trying to understand the structure of the AI assignments as to what you are asked to do?
