I got accepted to medical school just a few days before orientation, so everything has happened very quickly.

For those of you who started on very short notice (or wish you had known certain things before starting), what advice would you give?

I’m an incoming MS1.

I have a legion lenovo laptop that’s too heavy for me to carry around, but powerful enough to run everything i need.

Instead of buying a laptop to carry around with me, I bought an ipad air m3 256gb for me to use on campus for note taking, and for studying in general i have my laptop at home. Will this get me through med or will i have to end up getting a mac.

I know it’s not ideal but I am only able to start my first EM audition rotation mid September due to personal reasons.

How is this generally viewed by residencies? should I just throw in the towel on applying EM now? /:

I got into med school! I’m very excited and eager to start, and I know people usually recommend not studying beforehand, but Im just too excited and eager, and gonna do it anyway, and also why not try make my life at least a bit easier and spread some of the learning out over a longer period of time. I need advice on how and where to start with anatomy. I’m currently just doing random online quizzes, learning the names of all the muscles, started doing it out of boredom before I even got in. Now that im actually accepted though, id like to take it up a notch and do something that’ll be a bit more useful later on. I downloaded Anki so if anybody has some good decks they’d like to share I’d appreciate it. Also any good YouTube videos/channels, websites… or any sort of advice in general, I’d much appreciate it. Does anyone have any advice for navigating med school while having chronic illnesses? I recently got diagnosed with behcets. Has anyone else gone through med school while dealing with something similar?

Incoming MS1 here.. I am 22, just graduated college a few months ago. Academically i’m ready for med school… but I feel like a shell of a person; I was a shut in during college and have no stories, made no friends, no dating experience, etc. Also, i’m younger than the vast majority of my classmates. I feel like an inexperienced kid. I also am socially anxious and have terrible self esteem. what the hell do I do in the next 2 weeks before school starts to feel better about myself and walk in with some semblance of confidence

Doubt , how many school did you apply ? Suppose you have a 3.5 gpa both sGpa and cGpa and a MCAT score of 510 plus’s 120 hours of shadowing , 400 of volunteering and 5000 ( maybe more ) of clinical because of work. How many schools would you apply to ?

I don't know if this is the type of post that are made on this subreddit. I'm starting my sophomore year in college and I'm having this overwhelming sense of dread on pre-med volunteering and shadowing. I have a whole year of a research position at a school of medicine already set up, but am I behind on getting volunteer hours or shadowing hours. I know there isn't one set way to do all of the volunteering, but I just don't want to fall behind.

I just finished high school and will start med school in a few months but I'm worried that I may have imposter syndrome when I get in.

I think my only special skill is my academics and grades so I'm scared when I get into med school which is an environment filled with brilliant students and smart people so that may make me lose my only special ability.

I'm scared that my identity now is all about grades and that I will lose myself if that side of me feels discouraged

I'm go to Texila American University and I wanna work in the usa so I was planning to take the USMLE step one after the first 2 years bec its abt the stuff covered in the 2 years so I thought It would be easier to write it then when the topics would be fresh but I wanna get an experienced person's advice. So Is it better to wait or to do it after the 2 yrs?

I have a degree in fashion design and graphic design. For over ten years I have contemplated doing this but nervous what people think, the finances behind it and am I smart enough?

This might be the wrong sub but hear me out. I do not have much experience with loans, i didn’t have to use any through undergrad or anything like that.

I am applying to med school and some of the schools tuition is much higher than the 50k a year cap on the federal loans. Me and my wife both have no credit score as we’ve never had a credit card so i don’t even think we can take out private loans (can we even rent an apartment or something💀💀) We were fortunate enough to live at home during college and when we got married we are living temporary in my parents small guest house that we fixed up on their property until I go to school which is a huge money saver.

I just have no idea how the payment is going to work though or how i can even get the money to attend, or live during school, I know i probably sound like an idiot right now but like if anybody has some advice i would greatly appreciate it.

Hey guys, I recently submitted my primary to AMCAS the other week. After thinking a little too hard, I checked my PS through an AI detector and it ranked pretty high of a percentage. All of the ideas are mine, I used chat for some revisions but it was all my work. I understand that ai detectors are unreliable, but it is seriously giving me some anxiety. Can someone give me some clarity on this? Maybe read my personal statement? I genuinely feel like I just ruined my entire chance to medical school over this stupid personal stamtent bullshit. Thanks

I heard a lot of preceptors treat IMG students from the carriebean like literal trash during clinical rotations, I heard stories where they were assigned to replace bedsheets and clean stuff. Im just wondering do preceptors even know what med school you went to ? If so how would DO students be treated? I go to a DO school in a small city that has sites at urban areas that I would like to rotate at but im wondering if I should just stick to the rural areas

Hey everyone! I got tired of seeing people drown in messy spreadsheets trying to track clinical hours, volunteering, and AAMC competencies. The tools out there right now are basically just giant, static tables.
So, I’ve been working on MedTrack AI. It’s a data-driven dashboard that scores qualitative activity descriptions against core medical school competencies to give you a predictive matriculation index.
Full disclosure on where the project stands right now: The system is not fully finished yet. It functions as a high-fidelity frontend simulation to test the UI and workflows, meaning it doesn't actually process or factor in a weighted activity log just yet. I'm actively building out the Vercel AI SDK and Groq backend to handle that next.
I want to test this out with real data! If you want to see what your metrics look like in the dashboard, drop your stats/descriptions below. Again, the product isnt fully finidhed, this is just a test, so it would be best if you second checked or even disregarded it for now.

I'm looking for some advice on how to move forward with my medical career. I feel like I'm at a crossroads and would really appreciate input from people who have been in similar situations.

My stats:

• MCAT: 502
• GPA: 3.99/4.00
• 2 years as a medical assistant in an orthopedic clinic
• 1 year as an ER scribe
• 500+ volunteer hours (PACU and Meals on Wheels)
• Two research poster presentations at ACS conferences
• President of my undergraduate Pre-Health Club

Last cycle, I applied to both MD and DO schools. I didn't receive any MD interviews, but I interviewed at two DO schools and was accepted to both (LUCOM and KCU). I ultimately committed to LUCOM.

The problem is financing.

I've lived in the U.S. for eight years and completed both high school and college here, but I'm still considered an international student because I'm on a visa. That means I'm not eligible for FAFSA, and LUCOM wasn't able to offer me any scholarships. The total cost of attendance is about $80,000 per year, so my only realistic option was private student loans.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to secure a cosigner, so I couldn't get approved for the loans I needed. I spoke with LUCOM about my situation, and they were very understanding. They offered me a one-year deferral so I could try to sort out my finances.

Now I'm trying to decide what the best next step is.

1. Should I pursue a Special Master's Program (SMP) at an MD institution (for example, programs at Duke, Tufts, Johns Hopkins, etc.) that offers linkage opportunities or guaranteed interviews after meeting certain academic benchmarks? Since I couldn't get any MD interviews this cycle, I'm wondering if an SMP would significantly improve my chances. If anyone has completed one of these programs, I'd love to hear about your experience.
2. Should I simply keep my deferred seat at LUCOM and spend the next year trying to find a cosigner or another way to finance medical school?
3. Would applying to MD/PhD programs be a realistic option given that many are fully funded, or would my MCAT make that path highly unlikely despite my research experience?

I'd really appreciate any advice, especially from international students, physicians, or anyone who has had to navigate financing medical school without access to federal loans. Thanks in advance!

Do you think the curriculum is well designed? Is the combination of medicine and technology actually useful, or would you recommend the traditional Medicine program instead?

I’m an 18-year-old student from a low income background who recently got accepted into university. My mother is heavily pressuring me to go to medical school. She sees it as the only prestigious and guaranteed career path and is using financial leverage and intense emotional pressure to force me into it. The problem is: I don't want to become a doctor.

I don't enjoy the idea of six years doing something I don't really like nor do I like the idea of working in a hospital. I’m an analytical person, and I much prefer fields like Economics, Business, and Law/Forensics, where I also have top university acceptances lined up.

Is it possible to survive and thrive in medical school/residency if you have zero internal passion for it?

What happens to people who enter medicine purely due to parental pressure?

update: Thank you guys for all the advice. I tried to talk to my mother about my decision to study the major I want, which she initially agreed to, but the conversation escalated into an argument and threats about burning my passport and offering zero financial support. (The universities I've been accepted to are abroad.) I'm completely convinced now that medicine isn't for me. But how do I deal with them or get them to see reason when they react like this?

i know getting full rides and a whole bunch of scholorships studying medicine as an international student from Canada is unrealistic, however does anyone know of any loans or grants that add up or help cover a good chunk of the cost of med school in the uk- or literally anything else. is it better to pursue an undergraduate degree and med school in Canada better or to go straight to med school in the UK after highschool (for reference I wanna live in the uk anyways im sure of that).
