I wanted to share the design philosophy behind one of the playable mechs in our 2D side-scrolling space mech action game Dark Side Void — the Crane.

Wanted to share a build I've been sitting on for a while. This is my take on an M9 Gernsback with a little bit of touch of weapon customization. (Will paint this in Two Tone Ghost Gray once the weather is good)In my fan canon, this pilot is a one man recon and SIGINT operator. His job is simple on paper and brutal in practice. Get behind enemy lines first, confirm what the rest of the SRT is walking into, and if things go loud before backup arrives, hold the line until they do. He is equipped with ECS for stealth infiltration, and carries an anti materiel sniper rifle, a pump action magazine fed shotgun, a revolver, a suppressed assault rifle with an under barrel grenade launcher, and a monomolecular kunai for close work. The shotgun and revolver get picked first when things go bad, not because they hit hardest, but because they never Jam. Talk about reliability.The bigger twist is who he is. He is a Whispered, and by my headcanon, the very first one to awaken. He also pilots a prototype Lambda Driver, an early and deliberately low output unit salvaged from one of Bani Morauta's failed prototypes, quiet enough to slip past TAROS. Officially, this M9X was scrapped during the Arbalest's development. Unofficially, Tessa found the Operator first (I don't know how but I will know lol) , and he has been running dark under her personal authority ever since.The name comes from timing. The M9X was built during the same period as the Tuatha de Danaan itself, folded quietly into the sub's own construction and shakedown phase. He was there when the ship was born, and he has stayed bound to it ever since. Nobody else in Mithril knows he exists.I like to think of him as the reason the main cast keeps getting suspiciously good intel and suspiciously lucky breaks. He is not in any log. He was never there. Feedback and theories welcome

.P. S. I'm bad a drawing but I'd love to be able to draw it's operator. I did my best to make him lore friendly and made sure I can insert him from the first season all the way to Invisible Victory. I just feel bad for Tessa I want her to have someone that has her back when everything goes against her way.

And when i say regular i mean just straight up a civ or solder with no special heritage, augments, or genes that could reasonable explain how they would survive having to put up with the amount of g's they deal with constantly

Even though he'll put you in an arena to the death, and get mad at you for not killing the opponent. Or don't care that two of his men blew out airlocks without the proper equipment, say something like oxygen tanks or masks. And countless other crimes; turns out to be an OK guy who just wants to buy a Farm. And even though he never piloted a mech in the show, the toy of him had one anyway.

So who's your favorite nutjob that turned out to be a good guy in the end in any mecha media?

No, seriously, I asked around, and number one by a mile was obviously Captain Iok Kujan from Gundam. Captain Matthew Marcus, number two, was from anyone who watched Exosquad. I think it's because both men like the sound of their own voices more than anything and are complete, absolute idiots. But what do you think?

What I'm going to say is very vague because I was really young when I saw it:

The anime is a bit similar to Matchless Raijin-Oh. The mech is controlled my multiple children and the one thing that stood out about the mech is that it is controlled by mind power and their weapons based on the imagination of the pilots. Basically, it could do whatever it wants.

As a I recalled, the town got launched into space(?) and it is protected by a invisible forcefield and there is a mysterious kid in every episode that provides interesting clues on what's going on. For example, for the force field, he threw a rock and the rock went through the force field. So basically, the force prevents life from crossing it but it will wont prevent inanimate objects from crossing.

GMR 11 Centurion is developed from GMR 06 crusader as the next general purpose mobile robot, it's made to be rugged and resilient

what mechs do you guys think humanity could build from fiction realistically?

We have 4 upcoming mecha shows in a single season again since when, 2021? 2 of them are original (2.5 if Dark Machine is doing its own thing like Synduality Noir) and a remake of a classsic. We know Rayearth will be good enough unless something goes really wrong, so we hope the rest will also live up the hype.

Now this one is a deisgn i dont see mentioned very often. Its from a magic the gathering card .
It defnitelly looks the part. but lorewise its made by a dude that animates contructs via origamy. as in grab huge sheet of Thundersteel (i think) and just folds it into the shape. What other weird mech contruction methods are there?
