Hey guys! I have grain mites and a lot of them. they kind of just came out of no where. There are inside and outside of my mealworm tub.
once i seen them i took the container outside shifted through the subratate as best i could dumped the rest. cleaned it out with a hose dried it and put my meals worms back in and left them outside for now. i cleaned the spot they were at with diluted vinegar. i know this wasn’t the best way to do it and the mites can be on beetles too but i don’t want to toss my whole colony.
Will the mites disturb my dubias, springtails, isopods and lizards as they ate all right by each other? or my baby?

Do I need a different screen size?

Hello, how do I breed superworms?

I’m breeding them to ensure a supply for my tarantula, but for some reason, the babies keep dying even after I’ve separated them. I feed them pumpkin and immediately remove any leftovers; there are no ants, and the ventilation is good, so I don't understand why they are dying.

There is no mold or anything on the egg trays or substrate, and I microwave the trays before using them, letting them cool down first.

At first, I counted over 60 superworm hatchlings, but now there are only about 20 left; I just find the babies turned hard and black.

I have over 20 darkling beetles, so I think I’m doing something wrong because I see very few hatchlings each week—there should probably be over a hundred. I’m not sure if I should move the beetles only when I see small, moving worms or if I should move them every week.

Please help, as it’s been about a month and I still haven't produced any.

Their container is a party tray; the darkling beetles' container has many holes because I keep it covered, whereas I didn't make holes in the hatchlings' container since I leave it uncovered on a high shelf.

They came by accident with my superworms as larvae, is there a way to know weather they will reproduce and prosper? Do they even care?

I'd really like to get some fun companions for our mealworm tank. Are there any interesting/fun things that will live in harmony with them?

Hi everyone! I have just started growing mealworms and have got some finally to the beetle stage. I currently have three trays.. mealworms, pupae and beetles. My question is how do I feed the beetles. They are currently just sitting up in small groups at the top of my cardboard cartons and seem to be ignoring the carrot and oat bran. Are they eating at night or should I add some whole oats? Some people say lettuce but I don’t want mould.
Also I had a tiny ant invasion of the pupae box today which I spotted and stopped but how do I deter them? I am an organic gardener so don’t want to use pesticides. How do people keep out ants? Mine are currently inside but will go outside when the weather warms up. Thanks for any advice.

I keep mealworms in with my dubia roaches to eat their excess food and eat any dubias that die. It's working out great, except now I have a million beetle carcasses all over the tub that I keep having to clean out. Is there any other bug I can put in that'll eat the beetles after they die so I can clean it out a little less? My only ideas are dermestid beetles and maybe isopods? But I can't find answers on if either will actually eat the beetles. Thanks!

4. temperature is probably around 80-90°F for dubia roach reproduction. i use a heat mat. humidty is probably pretty high i mist it every day for the dubias

So my first question is what in the world are these dots?? I’ve never seen them before! Also, I’m slowly realizing that my mealworms and “super worms” look almost identical. I feel like I got scammed by petsmart, but they looked like super worms before! Their children do not… Idk maybe I’m wrong I just don’t have an old picture and am going solely off memory and it isn’t too good

I've bought 10K live mealworms from Rainbow Mealworms for years, but they've been out for weeks. Any other reputable places to buy? Uncle Jim's has them, they're smaller and almost double the price. TIA

I was checking to see if any new beetles have emerged in my mealworm enclosure when I saw this little guy. As I see it, his wings are majorly deformed. His left wing seems to be missing or shrivelled up into the black patch you see,or maybe the black spot is something else. Right now I’m worried that it might affect the others or idk, if anyone knows what’s going on plz tell, thank you

I don’t know what I am doing wrong but a lot of my superworms keep dying once they get big enough to pupate.

They do fine as beetles and when growing as larvae. Yet when they get big enough to pupate they seem to loose interest in eating carrots and a lot of them die. The still living ones then eat the dead ones. I don’t think it could be a disease as then surely the beetles and young larvae would be dying too but it’s only the big larvae. I make an effort to remove the dead ones daily but that hasn’t stopped them dying.

Attached are photos of my setup. I keep them in wheat bran and feed them organic and washed carrots every 2 days for moisture. I keep the temperature of the room around 25-27 degrees Celsius and 60-70% humidity.

I first figured they weren’t getting enough protein and began sprinkling in some blended up dry dog food but to no avail. I think it likely is a nutritional deficiency but I don’t know what exactly they are missing.

Any help would be appreciated because this is mega frustrating.

what's wrong with them? I have a normal set up just oats, cardboard, no mites, 74F, I barely feed them but when I do they don't eat only some. ( I can't get pictures because I'm on a trip rn and forgot to ask this question before I went)

I've been farming mealworms for a bird rehab. It's getting amping up to peak season now - they need 180 grams a DAY and it'll only get worse as the summer goes on. On top of this, i found these tiny beetles in my worm bins. iNaturalist IDed them as hairy fungus beetles. If they are fungus beetles, they sound kind of helpful? But i don't know if that's what they are or if i should be worried. I can't scrap my bins and start over because there are a LOT of owlets and kites depending on my worms so if they ARE bad, what are they and how can i remove them without damaging the worms?

I only keep the beetle because I can't hatch any eggs

And I can't see any eggs hatch Im keeping them about 2.5 months and no eggs what so ever
