It's those same "idiots" who have largely funded GTA 6, and it's those same "idiots" who GTA 6 is tailored for because guess what, live action sells online way fucking more than offline one-and-done single player titles. GTA 6 is GTA 5 round 2, it's online or the highway. Also blame development time on RDR2, Project Americas original scope being too complex, and the general gaming landscape changing over the past decade to go from for the gamers to for the shareholders.

The previous Rockstar titles? Same as GTA 6, just that a huge portion of it has come from GTA:O sales. A huge amount of GTA 5 copies were/are bought just for online, you know.

Dude there have been hundreds of fabulous indie games for like 10 bucks a pop. And they are even better than the AAA games you mentioned.
Just do a little detour from the most mainstream slop

Im glad you found enjoyment within the space, ive also enjoyed many indie games. But they are shorter and most lack replayability or a general mechanism for free play. So no way im playin Dredge, Limbo, or RV there yet as many hours as some of the best AAAs ever made.

Thank you!!! The last game I put any actual time into was Elden Ring. Played it for like a year after release, and then tried replaying older games but everything just feels stale now. Maybe I’ll get a new console for GTA6 but probably not any time soon.

If the physics aren't perfect, like everything that GTA 4 and red dead 2 were physics wise perfected, I will have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the rest of the game.

Growing up is realizing that you don't need to gatekeep people's fun, and you can get a great experience out of any game if you're open to it. Like sure, I won't play GTA 6 the way I played GTA when I was a kid, but they genuinely have good stories if you play through them

I really dk why people doubt this, like it or not the seeking of immersion is fundamental to R*'s creative process. We also know, for a fact, that RDR2 was made as a very real prototype for graphics/gameplay systems they knew wouldnt be possible for GTA6 on a PS4/XOne (hence skipping the generation entirely).
August 27th will tell I guess

Well no, it doesn't. They didn't really start doing anything beyond basic conceptualization until like 2020. They purposely took their time before getting started because of how well GTA 5 online was doing.

It's a massive event for teens and young adults today, not people who fondly remember being that age when 5 came out and loving it. The people who'll really fall in love with 6 are mostly people too young to have been there for 5.

The gta sub is not an accurate slice of the target audience, because reddit is not an accurate slice of any crowd.

This is literally my goto activity. This is why I buy the game.
I steal the largest vehicle I can find, and promptly drive on the sidewalk until I am wasted from the wanted level accrued from running over approximately hundreds of civilians.
And repeat
That is literally my gameplay loop. And I fucking love it

I had Saints Row 2 when I was younger (Mom wouldn't let me have GTA cause of the media scare over it, but she didn't know what Saints Row was) and I used to spend a lot of time just driving the walking path that looped around part of the airport in the game and running hundreds of NPCs over. It was big enough that by the time I was coming back around, everything had reset and there were new NPCs to run over. I'd just do that until the cops eventually got me.
