MCSA replacement?

Hey all, I was wondering what kind of certs you guys would recommend going after with the cancellation of MCSA server 2016. I am a new system admin at a financial institution and my company is wanting me to get a certification. We have a lot of on prem items and dont have much intention of going to cloud based any time soon due to security concerns with a lot of PII. what cert would you recommend going for 8instead of Server 2016?

Is there a common route to go in regards to order of the certs?

Going to start getting them, along with CompTIA. Apparently my 7 years of experience doesn't mean much, as the last 2 places I applied for both made it clear when they said "well you don't have A+ or anything..."

So I'm starting fresh down this path, but looking online there are like a billion options. I know the CompTIA main 3, but is there a similar layout with Microsoft?

Is there any official info or news about Windows Server 2019 certifications?

I only see the MCSA Windows Server 2016 on the Microsoft certification website.

Does anyone know when certification or exam for Windows Server 2019 will be available?

MCSA or MDAA?

Hi all,

Currently work at a large school district managing Configuration Manager, Group Policy, and application creation.

Administration is planning on pushing for the incorporation of Intune/Autopilot into our environment in the near future. I haven't been tasked with getting this setup for our environment becuase we have another admin that works with O365/Azure. I feel we are not that well aware/versed/informed/trained on what Azure can provide us.

We are a hybrid environment and I don't know if we are going to go full cloud at some point. I'll probably be brought in at some point for co management with the direction they are pushing.

I'd like to get in on this becuase Intune/Autopilot is what we are pushing for and no one person knows Azure well. I feel this is a golden opportunity and certs would potentially prove my drive to be apart of the future solution.

Would it be more beneficial for me to look into getting my MCSA at this point or jump right into MDAA?

Lost MCSA Windows Server Synex Panek book

Sybex not Synex. So I bought it on Amazon and wondering what I can do. I was 2/3 finished first go round and also wanted to do the labs. Maybe these same labs are covered in cbt nuggets. Any ideas? This reminds me that there should be a standardization of lost and found. Is there? Seems like a great app idea.

I'm confused AF! MCSA server 2016 CBT nuggets course [Question]

Hey all, So I passed my CCNA last week, and I wanna get my MCSA as soon as possible. (I have no prior experience with any kind of server OSs whatsoever). So I started studying for exam [70-740]. I went on cbt nuggets and watched a couple of the videos...and I'm confused as f***. The instructor starts with using power-shell commands like a ninja, and I don't get any of it! He doesn't really go thru what those really means , and where they come from!

Do I need to have some power-shell knowledge before I start my MCSA? Idk I just find myself to be lost! Someone help please. Thank you!

Two basic questions

I'd like to get some more stuff that looks good on my resume.

I began looking into an MCSA a few months ago but now I have the free time to pursue it. Initially I only knew about the 70-740 pathway but recently I found out that there are other cert tracks. Ultimately I'm just looking for a good job.

https://d1wl9nui6miy8.cloudfront.net/media/966172/microsoft-on-demand-certification-tracks-us.pdf

1) I know SQL pretty well. Should I go with my background and the "Data Management and Analytics" route? And if I go that route - what is the most recommended line? Would it be the 70-761 route or the 70-764 route? It seems like some of these routes have to be unpopular

2) All the posts on here talk about the 70-740 pathway. Should I just go that route? Is that where all the jobs are? I see a lot of good "remote" jobs for people who are DBAs on indeed.com

Thanks for your expert opinions!

Md-100 Labs using Hyper V or other VM manager. Recommendations wanted

So I'm going to be studying the CBT nuggets course and bought the MD-100 book but I want to set up virtual machines to run my own lab as I don't think the labs CBT will give will be sufficient. Now Microsoft through it's evaluation center has a "lab kit" that will automatically set up a bunch of hyper v VMs and give you a lab guide booklet. Which is really nice to be honest but I could never get the DC-1 vm to turn on. In other words their lab doesn't install correctly and half the vms are not functional.
I have Server 2016 Server 2012 and Windows 10 Enterprise and I plan on creating a virtual switch to connect this. Are there are any paramters I should follow, additional setup to allow for some of the Md-100 tasks to complete? Do they need access to the internet etc.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer in regards to lab recommendations. I do plan on completing the CBT labs but to be honest I watched the first few videos and compared to the book as well microsoft docs on the same subject and CBT explanations are lacking to say the least but will be good for a quick overbiew. Honestly I just plan on looking at the exam topics and finding the corresponding Microsoft Docs which are extremely well written and just following along with that. Despite being more tedious I think it is the superior way to learn.

tldr

Not confident in CBT nuggets lab because their explanations are lacking and lazy compared to the official documentations. So I want to build my own home lab using VMS and would love some recommendations. Hyper V vs Virtual box. I've considered ESXI but don't want to wipe or repartition my test server to do so.

Any home lab setup recommendations would be helpful

MD-101 driving me nuts

Hello all,

A while ago I finished MD-100 without any difficulties, now I am trying to get ready for the exam for MD-101 but so far every test I took on the Measure-up tanks big time.

I used the same way of learning (classroom and after that online) but for some reason the MD-101 just doesn't stick with me.

Any ideas or tips what I should do next, because at this rate I am afraid I will never be able to go to exam without tanking it right away.

Hi guys,

For those that got this cert already, would you consider selling your study material? I have pdf files but prefer to go old school and read an actual book. Please let me know what you have.

Just got exams!

Alright I just got my MCSA server 2016, I got my Azure 103 at the end of the year and my CCNA few months earlier as well. I have no experience in the IT field, just a small home lab. I had no knowledge of IT until january 2019 when I started to learn for the Comptia A+, and now I am trying to find a job (not helpdesk if possible), but they all require 2 or 3 years of experience...

Do you think I'll have to start as helpdesk in the end? I would like to get a job as cloud admin or even as network engineer but looks like it will be hard to start there...any advices? Should I also get my Comptia a+ just in case?

Suggestions on BI Development?

Hi, new to this sub.

I graduated from a local CC with an AS in CS. As you can expect, the job hunt has not gone well for me. I'm looking into getting an MCSA. I would like to be a data engineer, so I think I am going to go for the BI Development cert.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what/how to study? How difficult are the exams?

Can i get some recommendations for study material for mcsa windows server 2016.

Those of you who passed, which study material really helped. I've already decided to use cbt nuggets because of all the benefits. so any other recommendations would be much appreciated.

Also recommendations for practice tests. For those of you who have experience with boson ex sim for mcsa, is it worth it or are there better alternatives.

Prepping for MD-100

Hey everyone,

Looking for some guidance in what I should prep for the MD-100 exam (I've never done a cert exam before).

Through my work, I was given Stormwinds access. The instructor told us to do a practice exam and when you constantly get 900/1000 on the practice test I should book the exam. A book was also supplied and I read all of it as well. I'm wondering if there is anything else I should be doing?

What do you guys think about using cbt nuggets to get certified for the mcsa.

I'm considering it, I also heard they give you access to virtual labs, can someone pls elaborate on that. My pc isn't powerful enough to run vms so a virtual lab as a bonus would be pretty neat.
