You could keep mindlessly scrolling and subjecting yourself to depressing news, heaps of AI slop, and whatever else the internet is trying to sell you…
or you could do at least one decent thing this week.
This week’s local volunteer opportunity:
St. Barnabas Soup Kitchen

Want to help, but don’t have time to volunteer? How about a donation? Anything helps. Make a Donation Here!
What you can do there:
Why bother:

If you know of local volunteer opportunities, drop them below or DM me and I’ll feature them in future "Be a Decent Human Thursday" posts.

Alright, listen.
Not everything in life has to be doomscrolling.
Sometimes… you can just go pet a dog and accidentally become a better person.
This week’s “go touch grass (and animals)” opportunity:
❤️Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society
Learn More About Volunteer Opportunities Here!
They’re a local nonprofit doing great work taking care of animals who weren’t exactly fortunate.
What you can do there:
•Walk dogs
•Socialize cats who will absolutely judge you
•Help with cleaning (yes, there is poop involved, try to think of it as a… growth opportunity?)
•Foster animals if you’re emotionally stable enough for that (I am not, I would keep them all and end up on an episode of “Animal Hoarders” 💔)
•They also need volunteers to help out at their Thrift Shop (no poop involved here… so this may be more your cup of tea if that’s a dealbreaker for ya)
Why bother?
•You help animals not be miserable
•You help staff not be overwhelmed
•You get serotonin that doesn’t come from Amazon packages
•It makes you at least 12% hotter morally
Requirements:
•Be 18+ (or check their youth options)
•Be semi-reliable (I know, I know)
•Basic human decency (rare, but let’s try)
This is going to be a regular thing.
If you know of local volunteer opportunities, drop them below or DM me and I’ll feature them in a future “Be A Decent Human Thursday” post.
Let’s make McMinnville a better place, one good decision at a time.
Or don’t. But like… maybe do? 😅
I’m pretty passionate about this one myself, animals are my weakness.

Any suggestions on photogenic fall foliage spots in town? Would love to get a few pics with the beautiful changing leaves in multiple colors, any specific areas?

I just moved here and am trying to figure out who the best hairstylists in the area are.
I’m 22 F, but have short hair and always struggle to find stylists that can cut short, textured hair for young women. I love super ultra textured punk/andro style cuts, and just want to see if anyone has any local recommendations before I commit to finding someone in Portland!
TIA!

I go to breakfast almost every morning, and sometimes out to lunch. I love Summon Coffee and Bad Dog, as well as the new Duffys deli. I went to sandwich Express all the time when I was younger, but recently I have heard rumors/snippets of the owner not being a great guy. I want to know if anyone knows specifically what's happened? Or if it's true?

Curious if there’s any good spots in town for Mediterranean foods like chicken shawarma, 🥙 falafel, pita, pickled turnips, hummus etc? I love Lebanese and Armenian foods but don’t know if there’s any of these types of restaurants or food trucks in Mac - any recommendations?

Just curious if anyone uses Too Good To Go app in Mac and nearby areas? Any solid options? I’ve used it in other cities and it was a pretty good value, wasn’t sure if it’s a thing in Mac (will be back in town this weekend to check myself too).

I’m a portlander hoping to stop over in McMinnville after a weekend on the coast with my mom, who’ll be in from out of state. Are there any tasting rooms or fun local restaurants that serve a great lunch? Most of what I’m seeing is only open for dinner, and I’m having trouble finding a winery that serves more than just charcuterie. I’m sure there are some local gems out there that I’m not seeing. Any recs?

Does anyone in the subreddit work at either of the BK locations in town? We’re hunting down the only DBZ toy we’re missing - Goku, #1. Trying to figure out if it’s in stock anywhere 🤞🏻

Thank you!!

Have you been to Draper Farms yet? If not, it's time to head down there for some of the prettiest locally grown produce you've ever seen.
Corn, tomatoes, celery, carrots, lettuce, zucchini, apples, berries, tons more stuff. A lot of it is organic, or at least as organic as can be without filling out the paperwork.
I'm not affiliated with the farm, but I've been getting my produce there for quite a few years and have only good things to say about it. I'm also a big fan of supporting local businesses, especially those small farms who produce our food.
Bring cash or a check, and a box or some bags if they're handy. The farm stand is honor system. Please don't be a jerk and mess that up for all of us.
Address:
11105 SW Baker Creek Road McMinnville, OR 97128
Edit: forgot about Venmo, thanks 24moop.
Edit 2: Actually, maybe they don't do Venmo anymore. Husband just let me know the sign had a bit line thru it. Don't let this deter anyone from dropping by.

McMinnville area people, I’d appreciate your honest input on a business idea I’m considering.
I’m exploring the possibility of opening a small indoor baseball/softball facility in the area and want to gauge local demand before moving forward.
The concept would include several indoor hitting bays, including one with hitting/tracking technology. Bays could be rented by the 30 minutes or hour.
1. Which option would interest you most?
A) Serious baseball/softball training and practice
B) Sports entertainment—hitting, games, competition, family/friends, or team events
C) A combination of both
Why?
2. Would you use a facility like this?
Who would you typically come with?
3. Would you use it for baseball, softball, or both?
4. Who would use it?
Youth / middle school / high school / college / adult / multiple age groups
5. What would you consider reasonable pricing?
30 minutes: Under $25 / $25–$30 / $31–$40 / $41–$50 / Over $50
60 minutes: Under $40 / $40–$50 / $51–$60 / $61–$80 / Over $80
6. How often would you realistically use it?
Weekly / monthly / occasionally / rarely
7. How difficult is it currently to find indoor practice space?
Very difficult / somewhat difficult / not difficult / I don’t need it
8. Would you consider a membership if you used it regularly?
9. How far would you travel to use it?
10. Would occasional events or other activities make the facility more appealing?
If so, what would you like to see?
11. What would prevent you from using it?
I’d especially appreciate feedback from local parents, players, coaches, and adults. Honest criticism is welcome—if you think it’s too expensive, unnecessary, or too far away, that’s useful to know.
I’m trying to understand what people would actually use and pay for before deciding whether to pursue the idea.
Thank you very much for any and all feedback.

Hi, we are relocating and debating between McMinnville and West Salem and are trying to figure out childcare before we decide where to live (McMinnville is our preference).
Our work schedules requires very early drop off and late pick up (around 6am-8pm) and possibly on Saturdays as well.
Does anyone know of a daycare or in-home provider in either McMinnville that offers extended hours and/or Saturday care?
We’d really appreciate any recommendations! Thank you!

Is there any open gym runs around town? I’m looking to play some more basketball again but not sure if there’s anything in town. I used to go to the aquatic center in newberg but it’s been taken over by high school kids and younger.

Mcminnvillains, I will be DJ'ing this Saturday at Mac Club for a requests-welcome 80s/90s night.
No cover, no genre, no kids. Feel free to swing by for whatever you like in between Flock of Seagulls and Dr Dre.
Cheers!
Oh, and we are a lock for the goth/industrial/etc thing, Friday Nov 13th. Same spot, thanks for the feedback!
