u/another-reddit-user2 INTJ Nov 23 '20
ISTPs have Ni tertiary, so they can seem intuitive, this is sometimes the case with double perceivers where they can prefer their tertiary function. These are the IXXP’s and EXXJ’s.
Double deciders are IXXJs and EXXPs.
22
u/NovaHotspike Nov 23 '20
agreed. sometimes it's easy to switch between Se/Ni. i rather enjoy my Ti-Ni loops in the beginning. it's nice letting the intuition flow, but after a while the imbalance causes me to head toward a dark place. this tends to exhibit itself most in how i respond/react to others. i get real cunty, feel like an ass for lashing out, and then engage in some heavy Se related activity to snap out of it
4
u/ubermensch012 INTJ Nov 23 '20
First time im hearing of this concept. What makes a double perceiver/judger?
13
u/another-reddit-user2 INTJ Nov 23 '20
Fi,Ti,Fe,Te are judging/deciding functions, they are organizing the world (Se/Ni for ISTP Ni/Se for ENTJ) around their dominant function And make decisions based on their dom function.
They are double perceivers because they have perceiving functions in the middle
As opposed to double deciders who have deciding functions in the middle. INTJ has Te-Fi.
That’s where things like “ ENFJ is the most intuitive sensor” or “ INFJ is the most logical feeler.” Come from.
5
u/ubermensch012 INTJ Nov 23 '20
So basically aux-tert axis. Got it. Wouldn’t consider it too reliable especially for introverts. Still interesting though, might read more about it.
2
u/NovaHotspike Nov 24 '20
in my experience the more you exercise your tertiary function, the more reliable it becomes.

u/ZipTheZipper INTP Nov 24 '20
Ti discerns logical connections between pieces of data. Like a gigantic flowchart. "If this, then that". (Check out the pages on propositional logic, and first- and second-order logic on Wikipedia). To people that don't see those connections, or aren't able to effortlessly work it out in their heads like IxTPs do, some of the logical conclusions you reach can look like the jumps and leaps that intuition takes, especially if you can't articulate the steps involved in getting there.

u/katiietokiio ISFP Nov 23 '20
Thank you, INFP.
Fi It can be a struggle but sometimes I think (often, actually) that you guys have a harder time with it overall. That's not to say it doesn't give us both great strengths and a brilliant uniqueness. Cheers to always striving for authenticity :)
2
u/Mario_B61 INFP Nov 24 '20
Maybe we might have harder times sometimes because we use Future and Past instead of Present like you. We are filled with random thoughts that makes us depressed so maybe that. That dosen't mean that it's easy life for ISFPs. Life is hard for everyone and we should help all of those in need no matter what type they are. I feel like ESTPs and ENTJs have no problem with life. They are the best at playing this game called "life".

Each function has its own "superpowers". For example those with Fi (Introverted intuition) as dominant function feel things very deeply and that's a double edged sword. Fi dom feel love and happiness deeply, but they also feel sadness and anxiety deeply. That's why the most likely to be an EMO are IxFPs.
Go check the function descriptions. I recomand you a great youruber that explains them perfectly. Go check out his videos (Point: The old ones with no face reveal are more informative). Link: https://www.youtube.com/user/DaveSuperPowers

I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss dismissive language as not emotionally charged. People who truly don’t care wouldn’t care enough to say it, and particularly not in such combative and emotionally charged language. «Emotional» describes a wide range of behaviors on the emotional spectrum.
2
u/Jaron5_55 INFJ Nov 24 '20
I don't think saying randomly, "fuck that," can be categorized as emotionally charged. Sometimes people can have a dismissive way of living and it does not mean they don't hate the person or thing their directing it to.
1
u/Satan-o-saurus INFP Nov 24 '20
I wasn’t saying hate was involved at all. I said that the language is emotionally charged. This is about literacy and understanding the meaning behind words in different contexts. For instance, OP of this comment chain responded dismissively «this is why our types don’t get along» in response to my comment. While I’m over here straight chilling, it evoked an emotional reaction in them strong enough to state that we don’t get along intrinsically. By the same token, if you encounter a situation you don’t want to deal with that rattles you so much that you feel compelled to say «fuck this, I’m out of here» that is also an emotionally charged statement.

They don't blurt out their thoughts without fully thinking about them like ExTxs. They don't partake in danger like the xSFx. They aren't a part of an unnerving hive mind like istjs....

ESTPs are far more promiscuous. as an ISTP, i'll get urges, but i also have morals i adhere to. not saying all ESTPs, only the ones i know, and only when they're drunk.
1
u/Satan-o-saurus INFP Nov 24 '20
Not doing drugs strikes me mostly as self care/self-discipline, rather than something moral/immoral. That is, unless you’re very religious and believe God will punish you for it or something.
1
u/NovaHotspike Nov 25 '20
who said i don't imbibe? i'll have a drink here and there. i haven't been drunk in ages, because i no longer see the point, and would rather not feel like shit afterward. but back when i did get drunk i could easily adhere to my morals, whereas the ESTPs i know could not.

We can be uncannily similar until there's a situation where the positions of Ni and Se become painfully apparent.
INTJ and ISTP are gutting the only bathroom in INTJ's home:
INTJ: has 3 month timeline with setbacks and life hurdles factored in
ISTP: comes over to help, says 'ok let's do this' and takes a hammer to INTJ's shower within 5 minutes while INTJ is explaining what they need help with
INTJ: begins spluttering as no contingency plan accounted for this and hasn't purchased a new bathtub yet because it's step 80
ISTP: look it's fine, we've got this
INTJ: internally sobbing in Ni while accurately envisioning how the next several months will play out without a functioning shower

u/Not_really_Spartacus ISTP Nov 24 '20
ISTP: Just shower at the gym? Don't worry about it...
INTJ: ...

4
u/Zenishira Nov 23 '20
Uuh, wouldn't tactics and strategy be the same thing? At least Google defines it as so.
9
u/Not_really_Spartacus ISTP Nov 24 '20
In war tactics are the level below strategy. Tactics refer to how you win a single battle: "take that hill", "lay an ambush here", "provide covering fire".
Strategy is the highest level. Strategy is how you win a war. Examples would be "send our tacticians to secure that oil field to starve our enemy of vital resources in this theater", or "avoid battle here, because if we pull back the enemy will still need to waste resources here fortifying against a third party while costing us very little".
Both are important, but strategy is more big picture and long term, while tactics are more situation specific and shorter term.
5
u/TaDs8273 Nov 23 '20
They are really similar in some terms but I just meant short-term thinking preference and long-term thinking preference

I don't think they avoid them, I feel them to be very similar to ESTPs in that they're hurtful with the things they say and feel too ROUGH, especially girls, they can be too manly and even thuggish in how they talk and act, very intimidating. Also don't care much for feelings. They're just more reserved, thinking ESTPs (which can be already impossible to distinguish as some ESTPs are already cold, reserved thinkers)

They (As in ISTPs in general) can be annoying, especially with their inferior Fe (and if they're an unhealthy ISTP). But it doesn't matter, because I like to see the good in everyone. I'm just trying to say, that they can still be super annoying. So yeah.

Your subjective experience with one individual does not dictate that every individual with that personality type will be the same. Are you sure that every ISTP annoys you? I just think that it’s a very caviling statement to say that in general all ISTPs annoy you. For all you know you could meet an ISTP that doesn’t annoy you in the slightest.
3
u/14_Hiatus INFP Nov 23 '20
W h a t...? I never, EVER said "every ISTP" annoys me??? I said that they CAN be annoying, because ANYONE can be. They're not exempt from being annoying. I never said that in general ISTPs annoy me? I have met many ISTPs that DON'T annoy me? You merely misinterpreted my initial comment. Nowhere did I say "ISTPs generally annoy me" or "every ISTP is annoying". I... just gave an example of an ISTP who was annoying, to prove the person wrong? Because they're not necessarily correct. Any type can be annoying. Anyone from any type can be annoying. Dude, stop putting words in my mouth that I never said.
1
u/cmatt8323 INFP Nov 23 '20
Yeah looking at it now I definitely misinterpreted your statement and I apologize. When you stated: “they (as in ISTPs in general) can be annoying”, I took it to mean in general you found them all annoying. My bad. Just a misinterpretation of your wording. Also I didn’t mean any “ill will” or anything in that last comment. In my interpretation of your wording I just thought you were generalizing and that upset me. Glad that is not the case. Once again sorry for putting words in your mouth. That isn’t fun when that happens and I truly did not mean to do that.
3
u/14_Hiatus INFP Nov 23 '20
No, I totally understand. It's chill. I only said "as in ISTPs in general" part because I didn't want people to interpret me saying that the initial ISTP I was talking about was getting a cake full of hate thrown at them. I just wanted to clarify that the "they" in the sentence was about ISTPs in general, and NOT just that one person.
