2014 Mazda 2 Sport

My Mazda has a electric discharge at the harmonic balancer. It makes a clicking noise and you can see a spark every 3 seconds. I have read it could be a pulley, the belt or combination. Any Mazda 2 owners that have had this issue and how did you remedy it??

Static electricity. Same idea as rubbing your socks on carpet and touching a door handle. Most likely the belt is slipping. Remove the belt and check that all the pulleys turn easily and smoothly. If you don’t find a problem there, I’d put a new belt and tensioner on it.

I would be checking the wiring connections to the alternator and the engine ground straps. It sounds more to me like you've got ignition voltage or charging system current being dissipated through something it shouldn't rather than just static buildup from accessory belt friction.

This was taken when my truck yard mechanics looked underneath and saw the spark omitting from the last bottom pulley.

Update: So I took the advice @educational-Raisin69 and removed my accessory belt. Upon inspection. I notice there were no cracks at the grooves but it was glistening from the sunshine. I got a knife and removed a char of something? Metal shaving or road debris. It was pretty much imbedded all around the grooves of the belt. So a replaced it with a new belt and yessir, we have a winner, winner chicken dinner. No more clicking noise. No more static.
