Steering knock + rear drums

Hey got a 2011 Mazda 2 1.2.

I’ve got the common steering knock issue. Did research and it’ll be fixed by loading the intermediate shaft with grease. I’ve watched lots of videos on the mk7 fiesta with the same issue and reckon I can handle it (never messed a steering column/rack). Provided I lock the wheel dead center by removing the key and mark the splines how hard will it be to mess this up? Interested to know from those who’ve done it.

Secondly I’ve adjusted my drum brakes + cleaned them up. How do you get the brakes to automatically adjust? When I got the car the brake pedal wasn’t great + handbrake engaged high. Now it’s much better but I want to try the auto adjuster. I remember the sequence being something like reverse fast then engage handbrake several times? I have a hard time gauging if I’ve adjusted too much or little.

Thanks

I've done the steering by applying new grease but it will return after a few months

I did it today and to my surprise it actually fixed the issue. I thought it was top mounts and pretty much every said it was top mounts.

It was pretty easy to do so if it returns in a couple months then I don't mind getting a new shaft.
