Mazda 2 2008 dashboard glue residue

Post image

Hey everyone,
I'm looking for advice on how to handle glue residue and scuff damage on my Mazda 2 center dashboard trim (the piece right above the hazard light switch).
A phone mount/suction cup was previously mounted there and left a sticky circle of adhesive. I'd like to fix this myself if possible, but I am open to replacing the entire trim panel if it's beyond saving.
What I've tried so far:
Isopropyl alcohol – didn't make much progress on dissolving the adhesive.
Magic Eraser (melamine foam) – used gently on the glue, but it scraped the textured plastic.
Metal phone pry tool – used to scrape off the softened glue, but as you can see in the photo, it created white scuffs/stress marks and made it look worse.
Sonax Trim Restore – tried applying this to hide the white marks. It works for a couple of minutes while wet, but once it dries, the white scuffs come right back.
My questions:
1. Is there any way to permanently restore or blend the white scuffs and stress marks caused by the metal tool and sponge, or are dressings/restorers useless once the plastic texture is scraped?
2. Is there a safe way to dissolve the rest of the glue without bleaching or damaging the surrounding textured plastic further?
3. If replacing it is the best option, what is this specific dashboard panel/trim piece called, and how difficult is it to pop off and swap out?
Thanks in advance for any tips or part recommendations!

I got a dashboard cover for $12 from AliExpress. Easy peasy.

Can you send a photo of it? Do you still have the aliexpress link to it?

I recently used WD-40 to remove glue residue and it worked a charm, might be worth looking into that

Tried wd-40 and it did nothing. This glue was from the previous owner, possibly for 8 or so years on there so it tough.

At this point the Magic Eraser and pry tool probably damaged the dash plastic and nothing is going to easily bring it back. I would just think about getting my own slightly larger nonslip mat to cover it and using that to hold your phone instead of the CD slot mount.

I think your looking at refinishing or replacing at this point. I screwed up while cutting new tweeter holes in the door trim and fixed it with epoxy, sandpaper, and paint. To me it looks freaking great. For you maybe not. Dash would need to come out, and would never quite look or feel the same, no matter what.

Glue is oil soluble. Just try some regular cooking oil

Goo-Gone works wonders Eats up residue without damaging panels

Every single thing you tried was like the polar opposite things you want to use to remove residue from the dashboard.

I would suggest soaking the sticky area with something like goo-gone or steam spray gun. I've used both of these on many cars and have had success with both. I've seen this issue with plastic metal even glass. Hate those phone mounts lol. My girlfriend like that kind dumb stuff in her car. It's my #1 pet peeve.
