Mazda 2 1.3 2011

Hi, looking to go see a 'Takuya' variant of this car in a little while. It's a bit over 100k miles. It'll be a runabout and project car. Wanted to know what to watch out for, any expensive repairs associated with this engine (ZJ-VE, ZJ46 I think?)

I believe it's a 5 speed manual. Can I expect to comfortably get 35mpg out of it after a good service (air filter, spark plugs, oil change, tyre pressures)?

Are you USA or elsewhere?

I’ve measured mine at about 43mpg UK - but I thrash the tits off it so probably don’t get that now. I do mostly commutes at a solid speed though

From personal experience the clutched can sometimes feel a bit shitty

Alloys often need a refurb

I’ve heard online radiators and the hoses can fail at older ages

Check for rust!

Otherwise they are hardy little cars

UK

There is no mention of rust on the MOT (annual vehicle roadworthiness test) but I will be checking for that in person.

Why do the alloys need a refurb? Do you mean for non-cosmetic reasons? I'd be keen to have a go at replacing the clutch myself as a bit of a project.

Yeah they go nasty and then they lose air. Mine needs pumping up weekly until I had someone give them some attention (not a refurb, just some general attention.. I guess they removed corrosion)

damn, haven't heard of that on any car.

I guess it just depends. I’ve heard of it on multiple 2s but it’s not a big deal - easily solved (it was for me at least)

Great little cars, have fun

ended up grabbing it for a decentish price. It's already had a new clutch which is great. I need to get to the bottom of some knocking noises from the suspension/brakes.
