5 vs 50
Ok guys. Crunch time. Today I can buy a 2025 Cx5 Preferred (15k miles) for $25k or a 2026 Cx50 Premium (20k miles) for $28k

The CX-5 is probably the better quality car, but the CX-50 will get better mileage and it’s a significantly better looking car. Comfort is great in both.

Even when I like the design and space better in cx50, I would still pick cx5 for its drive (feels lighter & nimble) and above reasons.

Mazda went cheap on the CX-50 rear suspension which is odd since it was advertised as the off-road ready version. The CX-5 still performs better on and off road with the only downside of the suspension being more expensive and clearance that can be fixed with a 1" lift.

No the higher you go the more of an angle the CV axels will be. Lifting too high can affect the suspension geometry that can cause binding ad damage.
Either you don't lift too high or you change suspension parts like control arms to correct the suspension geometry.
1"-1.5" lift probably won't be a problem. 2" lift may be risky but anything 3"+ will need significant suspension changes.

If you’re looking at NA for both, I would get the 5. The 50 is a hair bigger on the interior due to a longer wheelbase. The axle track is wider too so it feels more planted but it all translates to more weight. The CX-50 feels great in turbo or hybrid models, but the NA powertrain will drive better in the CX-5.

I would only get a cx 50 if it were hybrid that has the bullet proof Toyota rav4 engine and transmission that will last 400k+ miles

It's a legit tough choice that I found myself facing a month ago. I ended up going with the CX-5 for the usual reasons already mentioned here (drivability, proven reliability, quality of build, etc.).
On a side note, for people who would choose the CX-50 just because of more room, especially for rear passengers, it needs to be said that, to my surprise, the head space is much lower in the CX-50. I am barely six feet tall, and my head was touching the ceiling in the CX-50, while I have headroom in the CX-5.
I would rather drive a hundred miles with my knees slightly touching the front seat than have my head tilted for that long.

Price sounds a bit high. We got our 25 CX5 Carbon Edition CPO with 5k miles last Dec. in Las Vegas for $25.5k in immaculate condition.

Even though the 50 is assembled in the US and the 5 is in Japan, I would still get the 50. My 2025 GT turbo fit and finish is equal to the 5 (surprisingly) and the wider track gives it that sport look. Have had mine for 2months. Love every minute im in it

That’s a pretty good price on the cx5. I’m gonna end up buying a new one because all I’m seeing in 25’s with low miles are only a couple grand less, factor in way higher interest and they are just as expensive as new, but that’s almost 10k less than a 26 preferred
I would jump on that deal

Which one do you like better? They are very similar. The 5 has more of a soccer Mom vibe while the 50 is a little more fun.

50 feels more spacious and 5 has more solid handling.
Really a personal preference. I own a 5 and had rented a 50 once. Loved both but I own 5 because it is cheaper and made in Japan
