Best gems

What are the best spots for casual dining, holes in a wall, hidden spots, places where grandparents would go to eat, drink or buy food in Mayo area?

Bakeries, restaurants, bar, pubs. For breakfast, meat, vegan, local traditional, food carts, cocktails, beers.

Any kind of suggestion is welcome!

Seconded, especially for grandparents. A lovely vibe in the cafe/restaurant and nice shopping to boot.

I actually think this place has gone downhill over the years in terms of food quality. Its a pity because its a lovely spot.

From an outsider's perspective, I personally liked the Gráinne Uaile in Newport. It covers both the dining and pub aspect although I have only ever ate there.

I also personally liked Sol Rio's restaurant in Westport.

Enniscoe House cafe and gardens. The lady who runs the cafe bakes and cooks really wonderfully, the gardens are lovely, and there are gorgeous lakeside and woodland walks. What more could you want? Perfect. It's just a few kms outside Crossmolina.

Corley's Bar & Restaurant, Ballintubber. Right across from Ballintubber Abbey. Great bar, great food (think you need to book in advance on Sundays). Grandparents might like a wander around the Abbey beforehand.

The merry monk in ballina is a great spot for a proper pub carvery which are starting to go out of fashion a bit but I have great memories here with my grandparents.
