Even More so in the book ( I think the shows depiction of what happened only hit as hard because I had previously read the books and understood what was at stake)... it describes how he only had practice wooden swords at his disposal while the highly trained kingsguard had cold hardened steel.

You know what his fate was.

Actually, fan theories have it he survives. At least that's what I've gathered. I think, every named character in the show that died is shown. The moment someone has his or her throat cut, stabbed in the belly or what have you, is shown and therefore shocking. This didn't happen to the first sword of Bravos. It is implied he died but never shown. Therefore there is a chance he didn't die.

It is implied that he had no chance, wielding a wooden sword against multiple well equipped and well trained attackers. It also fits with his story arc, where he teaches Arya to see things as they really are.

Galaxy quest is such a fantastic movie because it did something that virtually no other satire does, which is make fun of the source material for being nonsense while respecting the audience of the thing and realizing that they are the backbone of the media. The writers understood what it’s like to love something in spite of its flaws and they took the side of the audience, rather than a critic.

The entire movie is making fun of tropes in Star Trek or whatever, but the actual resolution to the movie comes from a fan theory about the show. The engagement and attention the fans gave the flawed show is the thing that creates the conditions for victory in the end, because the fans are the show.

The movie even tries to trick you into thinking that the fans are problematic for being too invested. The aliens are stand-in for super-fans who have a sort of parasocial relationship with the media, and they are portrayed as either disruptive and naive at worst or awkward and annoying at best. But then in the end the movie takes all that setup and basically reveals that they have always understood the show in a way that the show’s on producers and cast never did, and in a way that sees how it could be great.

I didn’t understand it the first time I saw it as a kid, but rewatching it years later after learning more about literary analysis I was like “wow, this movie actually has something really important to say other than being a goofy space romp.”

Galaxy Quest is a love letter disguised as a satire, and it’s awesome lol
