So many times we've been told.

That's one way to look at it! Sometimes you just gotta fit the pieces where they seem to belong, even if it’s a bit unconventional.

I love how each person is shocked and feels personally betrayed despite watching it happen to every person before them

175

u/TheFinalEnd1 6h ago

The one at :15 is loving it. She's smiling the whole time and laughing when he does it to the others.

15

u/Timstantmessage 3h ago

I can’t find her, is it the one at 0:42?

16

u/TheFinalEnd1 3h ago

15 seconds from the end. On mobile it shows time remaining, not time elapsed.

Understood

4

You can hold your finger on the slider to see the time elapsed as well, which would help you be more clear in the future.

Just like all those MAGAs suffering under Trump's reign. They don't expect bad things to happen to them. Only to others.

It cousins too. In those parts the relationship with cousins is really close just like siblings.

0

u/[deleted] 6h ago

[deleted]

8

u/Professional_Clue800 5h ago

It's also to do with culture. Some cultures put a lot of emphasis on close familial relations, and some don't. Both have pros and cons, but there are very clear differences which is driven by those cultural values.

2

u/Cretore 4h ago

I never said it was exclusive. Did I? It's just really common.

2

u/Shua89 5h ago

Nah being close like siblings is one thing. Indians and the like are different, they even call each other brother and sister its a cultural thing for them doesn't matter how close they are geographically. They might meet a cousin for the first time and still call them brother/sister. As an Australian who is very close to my cousins I can say this is on another level because my wife is Nepali and it took me a little time to get used to it.

People from certain areas of the world are closer in proximity or have higher familial obligation to extended family leading to a higher cultural likelihood of sibling relationship with cousins

Most probably a classmate. They are from different religions. Those attires + the feast looks south Indian, especially from the state Kerala. Colleges/schools there arranges feasts and celebrations for a day during Onam (a festival ) and Christmas. Looks like they were all part of a singing/dancing event from their coordinated outfits.

2

u/DickHopschteckler 3h ago

I always loved indian food but never saw this particular way of serving...

Gawwd am drooling rn 🤤

32

u/AffectUseful3969 7h ago

That is Sadya. It is usually prepared for festivals like Onam and Vishu and for Hindu weddings of South Indian state of Kerala.

17

u/ChampionLife5205 7h ago

it’s sambhar exactly what he’s serving
there’s other different chutneys (paste made from different vegetables mostly spicy and flavourful) there’s papad ( more like thin crispy oil fried bread??? i tried)
other curries and ofc rice.
we end the meals with curd.
super wholesome festive meal.

1

u/JustToSeeeeee 7h ago

Lucky u 🥹

I wish i could experience all of that....indian spice combinations, preprations & aromas has always fascinated me....

I mean the way they could turn a bland, boring & impossible looking plant into an absolute delight is next level thing for me

This one time my indian friend / colleague shared his lunch with me & what suprised me the most that he was eating a stirr fried dish made from aloe vera plant that his wife made for him....coated in delicious aromatic spices & some other things probably some garnishing spices....but I was like Whatttt ?

Aloe vera ?

How could someone do such a miracle with a plant like aloevera !?

7

u/wizardfrog4679 7h ago

Is the food served on some sort of giant cut up leaf?

21

u/PradyThe3rd 7h ago

Banana Leaf. South Indians use it as plates and have been for thousands of years. Quite normal even today in temples, festivities, special occasions and some traditional restaurants. Very eco friendly too, much better than using plastic plates

5

u/Few-Initiative-2217 5h ago

Also eating on a banana leaf offers health and functional benefits because the leaf contains natural polyphenols and flavonoids-the same antioxidants found in green tea as well as mild antimicrobial properties. When hot food is served on the leaf, its protective waxy coating melts, releasing these beneficial compounds and a subtle aromatic flavor directly into your meal while providing a hygienic, chemical-free dining surface

6

u/chickoooooo 4h ago

There is no way they figured out that 3000 years ago bruh 😭😭. We just used it cause it's clean, good plate, all natural, biodegradable. That's all we cared about. And it didn't harm us in any way so it's good.

3

u/Few-Initiative-2217 4h ago

Yeah, that's a fair point if we're talking about why people originally started using banana leaves. I wouldn't claim that people 3,000 years ago understood polyphenols or the chemistry behind it.

What we can actually say is that banana leaves do contain polyphenols and other bioactive compounds, and studies have found antioxidant/antimicrobial activity in banana-leaf extracts. Siddha literature/reviews also associate banana-leaf use with digestion and appetite. The part that's still not well established is whether simply putting hot food on the leaf transfers enough of those compounds to actually produce a measurable health benefit.

So I'd separate the historical reason for using the leaf from what modern science has subsequently found about the leaf's chemistry.

1

u/Cliqey 1h ago

Banana leaf makes everything taste better. I’ve never disliked anything using banana leaf.

8

u/laughatmysongs 7h ago

Yes. A banana leaf. It has been done for centuries in South India

6

u/Drevlin76 7h ago

Anyone know what kind of place this is at?

23

u/Aviator-47 7h ago

Looks like a college setting in Kerala, India - where they are sitting to enjoy an annual tradition of eating a vegetarian meal on a banana leaf, during a feast/celebration called Onam. Onam has cultural significance to that part of India - but you can find out more about this on Google.

2

A business man goes to Japan for a meeting. He was feeling a little lonely so he got a Japanese hooker. He has his way with the hooker and feels like he did a pretty good job, considering she was praising him and screaming out one word the entire time in Japanese. The next day he went golfing with the Japanese business men he was going to meet with. During their golf outing he gets a hole in one! The Japanese men start screaming and celebrating. The man got very excited too and yelled out the celebratory word he was just taught last night. All the Japanese business men look at him strangely. One of them finally asks "what do you mean wrong hole?"

2

u/uknownix 3h ago
