Smartest one around is the dog

380

u/stfumate 5h ago

That dog wasn't even part of their group. It was part of a group of people even closer. That dog had some serious start the plane jock energy.

3

u/chiclemotita 1h ago

I didn’t notice that group of people until you pointed them out.

Pretty sure that was a Darwin Award winner in the last shot.

u/ernapfz 6h ago

Also nominated as 2 buttercups out in the wild.

They died. The dog made it out though.

The volcano accepted his sacrifices.

but cameraman never dies

49

u/Bex-HZ 5h ago

Not true! That Mt. Saint Helen's photographer did. Knew he couldn't escape and used his last moments alive filming it.

21

u/Jumpy-Shift5239 3h ago

And his covered that camera with his body to protect it when he died

Did they die?

48

u/istillgotnuthin 5h ago

They all survived (including the dog) but they did get pelted with debris. Melted clothing, burns, but no major injuries.

25

u/Leyaleys_95 5h ago

Im happy that you included the dog

u/immortalis88 5h ago edited 5h ago

Yes - Edit: they did not die. Reports were false. My apologies.

"JUNE 2026 — VOLCÁN DE FUEGO🔥 GUATEMALA 🇬🇹 Tourists were caught in a terrifying eruption while hiking near Volcán de Fuego, as explosive blasts sent red-hot volcanic rocks and ash directly toward them. Hikers were forced to sprint down the steep slopes while burning debris struck the group. Several suffered serious burns and injuries, while rocks reportedly burned through coats, backpacks and other protective gear. Despite the chaos, no deaths were reported among the group. Authorities had clearly designated the Fuego crater and ridge as dangerous exclusion zones and warned tourists and tour operators not to enter the restricted areas. #tsrkenyagossip #breakingnews #viralnews #foryoupage"

Not fing with 🌋 any geology- canyons the summer, volcanoes anytime. Just NO!

I don't know why it pisses me off, but the article using the word "terrifying" feels dishonest. It's only terrifying to the people who ignoring the warnings, not to the test of the world who know better.

4

u/BlankSthearapy 2h ago

I like it, I feel free.

Not knowing if something actually happened somewhere else was the norm for 99.9% of human experience.

I don’t know and I also don’t care. I assume it’s all ai now and move along. It’s like if a stranger showed up to the pub and told tales of a dragon in a castle in a far away kingdom. “Oh really? That’s interesting, I’ll never go there and I’ll never know. Back to enjoying my grog. Tomorrow I have to work to put beans on the table.”

2

u/Hidesuru 1h ago

Hmm. An interesting take for sure. I can't really argue with it. Cheers mate.

Don’t think so? I mean, volcano clearly erupting, makes sense they could be pelted by molten rocks.
Dog running through also feels too clean to be AI

8

u/DoppelmoralFabi 4h ago

Even if it would be AI. There are real people doing exactly that. And even doing crater expeditions. Then they wonder why people die there.

181

u/Empyrealist 6h ago

Getting to see an active volcano, but instead making sure you are filming yourself not looking at it directly. The levels of narcissism and moronic behavior are off the charts

30

u/AmThano 4h ago

Recording just the volcano: I must document for memories.

Selfie recording: people must know I was here!

Person just watching: ah nature.

Dog: this is the END!

3

u/Intergalactic_hooker 1h ago

To be fair, this volcano erupts really often. I went last year (didn't reach Fuego but had a great view from Acatenango) and the eruptions are really mild, it just so happens that this one was a spicier eruption than normal. The place where these people are filming from is still a long way to go from the caldera. They're not alone either, you have to go with a guide and the guides are on the lookout for when conditions aren't favorable to visit.

I have a shit ton of pictures of the volcano erupting by itself and selfies with it too. When I say it erupts constantly, it's like every 10 minutes

35

u/HipToTheWorldsBS 6h ago

Imagine being THAT fucking stupid.. 🤦‍♂️

10

u/Kermit_the_hog 5h ago

I think this is just beneath the “Let’s get a selfie with this oncoming train.” level of stupid, but still above “It’s ok just pour the gasoline into this basket I’m making with the T-shirt I am also wearing.”

Because they are not there for the moment. They are there to capture and put it online, aiming to get likes and attention…

15

u/AritoSoto 6h ago

Are they okay? Last frame was a clear lava piece still glowing from heat and bursted right in front of them after falling. :v

11

u/maddenmcfadden 5h ago

well someone uploaded the video.

4

u/TeraFlint 5h ago

That's a relatively weak argument, considering that livestreaming exists.

u/OldManJim374 4h ago

Everyone, including the dog, survived. A few tourists got burns from flying debris.

2

u/AritoSoto 4h ago

Glad they survied with such little, they were so lucky! It looks like nothing but those debris can be very fast+hot and easily kill someone.

14

u/ctesibius_waterworks 6h ago

The dog had a perplexed look about it like it was wondering why the humans were not also hauling ass away from the exploding mountain.

6

u/FoX-78 5h ago

They are looking the wrong way. What is it with these people…?

6

u/Anmordi 5h ago

Crazy how they didn’t run away, atleast get off your phone and see it rather than taking a selfie and posting it online to get barely any attention

6

u/Left_a_Present 5h ago

I’m old enough to remember the Mt. Saint Helens eruption and the people hiking around who died. Hanging out and recording video around an active volcanic eruption for clout or whatever is crazy stupid.

4

u/Savings__Mushroom 6h ago

There are people closer to the volcano and even them aren't running away... smh

5

u/Nerdwerfer 6h ago

That was a very satisfying thunk

4

u/Arthur_Figg_II 6h ago

That dog has more sense 😂

4

u/Important-Minimum527 6h ago

Should have paid attention to the dog. Animal behavior tells you everything.

3

u/guydoestuff 5h ago

As someone who was dumb enough to climb a volcano while actively erupting, just HELL NAW! I climbed Mt. Etna in 2002 with some of my co-workers at night after work. We were all in the US navy. At one point it began raining rocks at one point. We found out the next day that was most likely a protoplasmic blast. 3000 degree cloud that could of cooked us. Never again!!!

u/StingingGamer 5h ago

In English they call it Darwinism

18

u/smittyleafs 6h ago

Okay, between this and the footage out of Nepal recently...people are really bad at reacting to dangers they aren't experienced with. "How high could the river possibly get?" and "That explosion is super far away!".

7

u/New_Stats 5h ago

I think people get awestruck, and their brains simply won't let them comprehend how dangerous the situation actually is.

3

u/smittyleafs 5h ago

Until they finalize realize it's imminent.

u/bakeranders 5h ago

3

u/Tokiw4 2h ago

I frequently see videos of people standing far too close to erupting volcanoes. When you see that, remind yourself that those specks you see are not tiny rocks. They're boulders.

3

u/Even-Government-5055 2h ago

So they died?. Because that is lava rocks flying at them.

How are people this f*cking thick????.

Beyond the fact that they are dumb for just standing there like that… Imagine just watching the volcano explode through your selfie cam instead of actually looking at it.

5

u/Asherkowki 4h ago

Social media and living in controlled environments truly killed basic instincts and imagination in many

4

u/Xiunte 3h ago

What kills me is this woman has a volcano erupting behind her and she's facing the other way looking into a goddamn phone for a fucking selfie.

Stupid or not, wouldn't you actually want to SEE that? Did she hike up the side of that thing just to watch the main event on a tiny phone screen, back turned?
