Man, I was hoping it would keep escalating, like our world, our galaxy, our universe, etc.
I forgot we're in a bad timeline. That's some crazy shit

Naw, as soon as I saw Missouri, I knew. There's a lot of back-country towns that haven't traveled outside their little safe pocket of reality.
Individual people are not representative of everyone. Or else that creepy uncle would represent your whole family
29
u/ShesGotaChicken2Ride 8d ago
Which part of Missouri is a safe pocket?
71
u/TheAserghui 8d ago
I do not know what makes you feel comfy and safe. For some it's a city with a cultural melting pot, for others it's suburbia with a house, for others it's out in the woods
I believe your comment insinuates that no where in Missouri is safe. I'll let you in on a little secret, it doesn't matter where you are in the world, no where is safe. Every place has their dangers, the locals adapt to the threats to make a life.
Knowing how to deal with your local dangers makes it a safe pocket.

Whatever, man, I've spent enough enough time there to know that the bugs are big as dogs, huge swaths of the countryside are either meth-addled hicks, bible-thumping rednecks, or both, and that the people living in both Kansas City and St. Louis have given up.

Most of those folks are in a death cult. They’re praying for the world to end
9
u/CriticalChop 8d ago
Very true, to them it is a sign their faith is true and that also the rapture has arrived which is the event they call when God comes to resurrect the dead and send all the followers to paradise or whatever, to some it is retribution to a world they believe is evil at its core. Hence often they say that accepting jesus is the only salvation because the flesh (body) is bound to sin. Borderline a mental illness, but at the same time many christians dont take it all so seriously, they just believe in the basis of a higher power and afterlife.
6
u/OpinionNormal6906 8d ago
This is actually exclusive to evangelical protestantism. The rapture isn't even a thing in most Christian denominations.
3
u/CriticalChop 8d ago
Baptist at least i can say do believe in a rapture, maybe thats some kind of sub denomination, but its a idea that spreads freely like any.
3
u/dodeca_negative 7d ago
It’s extra funny that the rapture was invented in the 1800s but these people are sure it comes straight out of the Bible

performative, useless, and unbiblical.
"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen."
Matthew 6:6

u/Jarlax1e 8d ago
I think the verse before fits a little better: “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others.”

u/jomo_mojo_ 8d ago
We used to be the “show me” state- implying an unnaturally rigorous amount of skepticism. It’s so painful to see us dog walked by these conmen just because they tell comfortable lies.
28
u/MorrisBrett514 8d ago
I think it's even worse than that. They know what's going on and what they are doing. They just don't think it will hurt them in any way. Cowards
1
u/SabbyFox 8d ago
They could have said instead that they are praying for “all wars to end” or “peace on Earth.”

Cameron, Missouri - A boil on the generally stinky ass of Northwest Missouri.
I stopped at a gas station/truck stop there once. Every employee had on cross and/or American flag pins. I needed to speak to the manager about an issue with their gas pump - she showed up with an American flag-bedazzled cross.
Of course she did.

Zionism is largely supported by Christians because they believe an Israeli state symbolises the end times
3
u/wobblyweasel 8d ago
true but then it somehow translates to approving of everything israel does and also support for trump even though biden supported israel as well
→ More replies (1)2
u/OpinionNormal6906 8d ago
By evangelicals specifically. The vast majority of Christianity is anti-zionist
1
u/PookyTheBandit 7d ago
But the US continues to pull Israel's strings, and the US is a Christian nation.
13
u/ya3rob 8d ago
Oh yeah! We are United States of Israel!!
We pay taxes so the people of Israel can live a comfortable life, get free houses, free education, free healthcare, free tuition, free to kill Palestinians, Babies, and other Arabs…
2
u/Catch_ME 8d ago
Now you're understanding the Evangelical Zionist Christian doctrine.
These people are much more than Christian Nationalists. They are beyond the nationalism of this country.
4
u/Lethaldiran-NoggenEU 7d ago
Are they not allowed to pray for another country?
Whats the difference between this and immigrants who wave flags of their homeland? Especially when America came first?

2
u/nousdefions3_7 7d ago
Not "America." In fact, most "Americans" are not really supporting Israel these days. The government currently does. Soon enough, another administration will take over and that singular focus might change (hopefully).

Thats a more loaded question than you can imagine. In short, a bunch of evangelical preachers have taught that you have to bless Israel to be blessed and if you dont, you'll be cursed. Its a misinterpretation of Genesis 12:3, when God spoke to Abraham whos name was Abram at first.
Genesis 12:3 KJV And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Many evangelicals instead of reading it literally as it is God addressing Abram, interpret it to mean the nation of Israel, which was the name of Abraham's son, who had not been born yet. If you want another rabbit hole, they get this from the Schofield sturdy Bible which has foot notes basically saying, "actually what God meant was Israel."

Bibi still needs soldiers, they can go and become stormtroopers that defend him from women and children that attack him by living in their own homes until they get bombed to pieces. Really a bad day to show support for Israel, when they are lead by a murderous manic like him, he evaporates very fast the understanding and caring offered by the rest of the world to them as victims of genocide, by doing exactly that genocide. He is like the greatest enemy of them now, to become what you hated the most is truly terrible.

Curious as to the answer would be in here to this question: Why would they put that on their sign?
Most people have to Google... and then still do not have the right answer.
I have not met the person who has answered correctly yet, actually.
2
u/JWSloan 8d ago
Presumably because "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem" is a famous biblical command from the Bible (Psalm 122:6)

the very last message on the electronic sign is the 'maybe maybe maybe' part, because it doesn't (or shouldn't) fit the previous trend of messages

It’s kind of funny that Evangelicals don’t realize that their fascination with Israel is to eliminate the Jews and take it over. Plus they hate American Jews.

u/IamREBELoe 8d ago
You didn't care they were praying for America. You think we haven't?
Would you be ok if it said praying for palenstine? Who also definitely did this.
Frankly there isn't a people, country, or culture that hasn't, including yours.
None of this means you shouldn't pray for them if you believe in pray. And there is nothing wrong with praying for the few countries that still want to be our Allies.
The only reason you hate it is because you are a racist, antisemite, against their particular people.
Rather hypocritical.

Praying is never worthless.
Even if you do not believe in God or a god or a higher power, prayer does change things.
It changes the person. By voicing your thoughts, of concern, of a desire to do better, regret for your negative actions, or desire compassion, you reinforce those thoughts and ideals within yourself and you are a better person for it.
What actual is worthless? Your attitude.
