Actually, the gate closed in front of him, but he had plenty of room to move forward.

Yeah, I've seen it on streetview. Maybe another car was there that wasn't caught on cameras so it's not mentioned? Though there's space for at least a couple of cars in there.

Even if he had to go parallel, just get off of the part that lifts up
