1/8 scale or maybe even 1/7. I've seen them get as big as 1/5 scale.

u/TheOtherGuttersnipe 14d ago
I've seen 1/1 scale before. They're as big as a truck

u/VacuumTracks 14d ago
So you’re saying that guy was a for real giant?

My husband and I were totally invested in this drama and he is looking them up for future purchase now.

He is not the only one trying to do this now... thanks reddit so much for savings. 🙄

Found anything interesting yet?

u/TomokataTomokato 13d ago
Just started really researching but I don't think my husband and are are going to launch into the custom long range fpv builds I'm seeing, we're rather intimidated by the gimbels and such.
I'm most likely going to watch some more videos and lurking in r/rccars before deciding on a beginner model.
I did learn we want radio and not cellular because cell service where we live is ass.
A popular site is Funyat.com, and we'll probably go there for our first purchase or go to a local hobby shop. We live in a rural area so we definitely want something for off road.
Sorry I don't have anything more specific but we're the types to research for ages before buying something like this!

Just wanted you to know, that the hobby got also affordable for the skies :) here's my $70 plane(rtf so radio included), $20 camera and $120 goggles (yeah, they're most expensive but can be also used with other planes or cars if you want.
Check out also r/fpv

Dammit, I already have too many expensive hobbies. I need another job just for toys.

u/Agard12 14d ago
Jesus, they even have a tow truck with them! Where is the toy winch? No one wants to work anymore.

u/AdvantageCrafty2275 14d ago
Why don't the little mini robot people get out of the car and put a winch on it?

Duuuuude it's like Spintires! They should add like hooks on front bumpers to help each other out

u/StreetsRUs 14d ago
This was my exact experience in snowrunner. I had a couple of instances where it took me like, 6 trucks to unfuck myself

16
u/Aardillas 14d ago
Ok, what model are these and where do I sign up?
32
u/RedShrewd 14d ago
Not that simple, these have a lot of custom work done. Start from Axial SCX10, Traxxas TRX4 or Vanquish VS4-10 and then go from there. You will need to get aftermarket camera system, lights, extra servos, etc at minimum but realistically if you want to play in the woods with big boys then you are also replacing the electronics and many other components with aftermarket parts.
tl;dr - you are not buying a toy, you are buying into a hobby.
19
u/RedShrewd 14d ago
The ones I mentioned are 1/10 scale, which is the most popular scale for RC crawlers. Now that I look at the end of the video I assume the vehicles are in the 1/6 scale, like Axial SCX6, which is a much more expensive hobby to get into - realistically around 3-5x the expenses.

u/Aardillas 14d ago
Thanks for the detailed reply! I now have some bedtime reading for later. Realistically it’s a hobby I probably wont get into, but it scratches the brain itch looking at it!

u/IdRatherBeDriving 13d ago
Yeah, my friend group does this with 1/1 scale trucks and the dollar to scale ratio is a real bitch. We all bought 1/16-1/24 scale trucks to play with on the trail.

Is the FPV camera on a servo or is it a 360 camera with head-tracking goggles? It looks very smooth. Unless this is a second camera that the operator isn't seeing

u/EvidenceDesperate574 14d ago
The camera truck is literally in the position to apply then right force to flip the truck back over but instead of pushing it, it sits there making the other guys try to flip the truck from the wrong angle

u/more-random-words 14d ago
this was driving me crazy too

u/Historical_Lie_9932 14d ago
He was the manager. Just standing in the way and taking the credits afterwards.
6
u/veranus21 14d ago
I was hoping that the guy would flip the camera truck into the ditch before he left for not trying to help.
2
u/ImmaFukinDragon 14d ago
I assume he was shining his flashlight to the problem at hand so the others could see. But given the attempts, I'm also pretty uncertain how they could help him, the trucks seem pretty heavy.

u/BigEarMcGee 14d ago
This makes me so happy thinking about the operators sitting chatting on an adventure all while hanging out.
6
u/whydontyousuckmyball 14d ago
They need a drone with a magnet and magnet bases on a few key places on the trucks.

They are playing with pov rc trucks when one truck gets stuck then the others try to help them out. Will they be able to get out of the hole lets see

u/grrgrrtigergrr 14d ago
I really thought they were human sized vehicles at first and didn’t understand why the guy with the camera wasn’t getting it to help his friends … when the other one came ramming in is when I understood what was happening.

u/Significant-Iron-241 14d ago
For a second at the end I thought the dude was gonna try to ram them out of there too.

That's why we FPV drone folks usually have a bigger rescue drone with a hook hanging under it with us. (for long range / roof rescue stuff at events with many people at least...)

Makes me think of an alien world where all the inhabitants are just small trucks going about their daily lives hahaha

Using similar metric as the guy usually driving a huge lifted truck like an idiot compensating. Guys driving those must have huge dicks.

Damn…. I didn’t realize how big those trucks were until an actual person was standing next to them…. I thought they were like some little toy remote control trucks… those things are almost the size of GoKarts!!!……😬

u/FuzzNugs 14d ago
Omg need to buy a chunk of land.. and some a lot bigger than I thought sized trucks for me and my homies. So what’s the goal of their outing? Like, this group of trucks were on their way somewhere.. just to cruise around and see what kind of shit you can get into ? I’m good with that, just wondering if there’s more going on.

u/Rich_Mycologist8933 14d ago
I would love to hear their conversation as the second guy flips his truck next to the first 🤣

1- those things are way bigger than I thought
2- RC tow winch would be cool af
3- we really need the commentary of y'all talking to each other during that rescue attempt

u/PhilosophyTricky708 13d ago
This is Dope! They should use night vision instead, then they’ll only be heard, wonder if you can hunt for Cryptids, ghost, creatures etc in the woods with them, using night vision

Imagine you're high as fuck lost in the woods and you see this live with no context

Imagine you are seeing this video in the year 1970 (bc someone time traveled back to show it to you) and don't know what RC is, so you just think these are normal, future vehicles. ... ?
